Very excited about E. Ewing next year....

I enjoy reading PU52Chevy's posts and insight. I find the majority of them spot on. I've met Eden. I'm 6'3" tall, 200 lbs and I felt small next to him. He is a big, strong and athletic looking kid. Definitely B1G caliber. What was the most impressive about him was that he is a VERY polite kid and has great manners. His uncle played for Duke, not his dad. He is very anxious to contribute.

As for Taylor, I've followed him since his Junior year in high school because I am friends with the family of someone who's son played with him. Unfortunately he has been plagued by foot issues and most don't expect that to go away. The question is whether he can play with the pain. He was brought in as a "project". He has the athleticism to be a solid rebounder and defensive asset. I don't see him ever being great. My expectation is that he plays through the pain and is productive in relieving starters. Unfortunately I just don't see him in a starting role. If I'm wrong I'm not sure if that bodes will for our team... or not.

Honestly, most of the recent JUCO players (by recent, I mean the past 20 years or so, ha) were just about as good in their junior season as they were in their senior season. Bryant Dillon is the only JUCO in that time period whose numbers went up significantly in his second season, but part of that was due to Purdue being short-handed (injuries and a season-long suspicion) and also due to Brandon McKnight's graduation. Carl Landry improved, but his numbers weren't significantly better than his first season.

If anything, some of the JUCO players have actually been less productive in their second season then they were in their first (ex.'s: Darmetreis Kilgore, Tarrance Crump).

Purdue JUCO's of the past 25 years (let me know if I am forgetting anyone from this time frame):

1. C/PF Kenny Williams ('92-'93 to '93-'94)
2. PF Roy Hairston ('94-'95 to '95-'96)
3. PG Tony Mayfield ('97-'98 to '98-'99)
4. PF/C Greg McQuay ('98-'99 to '99-'00)
5. CG Joe Marshall ('00-'01 to '01-'02)
6. SF/SG Kilgore ('01-'02 to '02-'03)
7. C/PF Chris Booker ('02-'03 to '03)
8. CG Dillon ('04-'05 to '05-'06)
9. C/PF Gary Ware ('04-'05 to '05-'06)
10. C/PF Landry ('04-'05; '06-'07)
11. PG Crump ('06-'07 to '07-'08)
12. C Chris Reid ('07-'08 to '08-'09)
13. C/PF Calasan ('07-'08 to '08-'09)
14. CF Ewing

Interesting list. I'd love to see this data including averages along with a separate list for guys who transferred into Purdue.

Marshall was a transfer, from Mississippi state I believe, not a JUCO.

I think he went to Mississippi State for a year, then went to JUCO the next year (a la Cam Stephens after his one season playing for Purdue: went to Vincennes JC and then played at (UNC) Charlotte for two seasons) before playing at Purdue for two seasons.

I can look them all up on sports-reference right now if you want to see their stats for each of their two seasons.

You don't have to do that. I just think it would be interesting to compare JUCO guys and transfers. Maybe I will look it up someday and store the info.

I just did it for the JUCO guys. It's in the post above yours.

I can list the incoming Purdue transfers' career stats of the past 25 years as well.

I was thinking Marshall sat out his first year at Purdue?

He either played one season of JUCO ball in 1997-1998, played one season at Mississippi State in 1998-1999 and sat out at Purdue in 1999-2000 before playing the next two seasons or he played at Mississippi State 1998-1999, played one season of JUCO ball in 1999-2000 and then came to Purdue. There are probably some old articles that can clarify that, if we really want to know.

Not that I feel I need to answer you because you add no value to these boards
Not sure how/why you came to this conclusion but if likes are any measure of value on these boards, then it's possible my almost 50% of likes to posts compared to your 13% means that not only do I bring value to these boards but perhaps, just perhaps I bring roughly three times as much value as you. :p

Lets not conflate "likes" with "value"

Don't get the 3 year comment. Assumed since he was a JUCO transfer he only has 2 years.

Some JUCO's leave after one season and play at their new school for 3 seasons, but I understand that they were not referring to that scenario. In Purdue's recent history, all of their JUCO''s have been two-year players, so it makes sense what you are stating.

I am more impressed after doing some reading up on Ewing

Painter calls him our most athletic big man since Jajuan

Nevada, which originally signed him out of high school, saw him as an undiscovered gem in the mould of Nevada player and WAC Player of the Year Deonte Burton

The Nevada Deonte Burton was a point guard. Maybe you're thinking of the Iowa State Deonte Burton?

Nevada's Deonte Burton: http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/deonte-burton-1.html

Iowa State's Deonte Burton: http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/deonte-burton-2.html

It's kind of weird that Nevada and Iowa State played in the first round this year, with their history of Deonte Burtons and all.
