Both sit on our top 5 highest rated recruits of all time, both completely worthless on the field
Lysine was ok on the field just not up to his hype except that one big game at Notre dame. It was his off the field problems…
Take away the one big game at ND and he averages 2 catches a game for 20 yds for his career. He was as bad on the field as off, and like Green carried the same all for #1 mentality into the locker room.
I mean let's be honest, just fielding a team may be the best we can do to start.
Maybe he has a real eye and we will all be surprised, certainly possible.
But it could simply be no different than last time, go after a bunch of folks who didn't work out somewhere else and cross your fingers enough of them do here to have a decent team.
There has certainly gotta be some appeal to getting a starting opportunity for a B10 school, even if we are currently the worst one.
we are dead last in big ten in portal rankings right now. However, last year indiana didn’t look that much better and only rourke and sarrat looked like really good transfers. Kamala, Walker, fisher, and ponds were low-mid 3 stars, most of our transfers are rated higher than they were. But their coaches knew them and knew they could be successful with them.
Based on the results of the last two years, I am not surprised we're last. My expectations for next year are extremely low all things considered... hell getting just TWO wins is better than last year.
But you never know.. this isn't Odom's first rodeo rebuilding a disaster....
I’m not putting too much emphasis on the actual rankings. Knew it’d be low this year due to the amount of players we lost. Other teams who are very good programs are also ranked low. What I am interested in is the recruiting of HS players which I believe the staff is out an about at various high schools in the state this week.

The star rating for portal guys is a total crock of shit save maybe the guys who actually started, and had ample playing time with film to go off of. Look no further than our 4 star portal guys last year. Give me guys you can play, want to play, and are coachable.
Let’s hope Odom can coach them up because last out of 18 teams is…. Not good. Really hard to see a path to us ever being more than a 6 or 7 win team in the current football landscape. Which, if Odom is able to make us a perennial 6 win team I say we do all we can to keep him as long as he wants to stay. Hard to win when we have an athletic department that isn’t seriously trying to compete (relative to our peers) and we’re working with bottom of the barrel resources (once again, relative to our peers).
Simpson still clears. It cannot be overstated how terrible Nyland Green is. Has anyone even tried to get him to visit since he entered the portal?
I'm not sure I agree. Didn't we just pay Odom almost $7M/yr? That puts him in the Top 6-7 of B10 coaches and around Top 25 nationally.
I don't think we can expect UM or OSU level success, but I think we can get 8-10 wins/yr and every now and then, get a favorable schedule to sniff the playoffs.
Wow is that revisionist history, Lymon topped out at just under 700 yards combined in two seasons before being dismissed following his 3rd arrest. Nearly half of those yards came in one game at ND. Lymon good for two catches a game, Green good for 2 tackles a game (1000x???). He and Green remain the only 5 star recruits to play for Purdue (in the modern era), and neither came close to greatness during their brief careers.
Odoms salary is 6 million which puts him towards the bottom of the conference. He is also not in the top 25 either. As far as 10 win seasons go, we’ve had exactly one 10 win season in our history, I’m not holding my breathe to see that happen again anytime soon. If he can get us 6 or 7 wins a year I would consider that a successful hire. That also aligns with our history of being a .500 program.
I may be a little harsh but with nil and two of our last three coaches being historically awful hires(hazell and walters), I just don’t have much faith we’ll be competitive other than a quick flash in the pan 8 or 9 win type season. The transfer portal has also been decimating our team and taking all our top talent. As long as Texas a&m and other big programs are willing to pay more than us for our players, we’re going to continue to be a farm program for other teams.
College sports in general are going a direction I’m not a fan of, at all. I still enjoy watching but it has a completely different feel than it used to.

I’m wondering did any of the 6 players who entered the portal and then decided to return actually receive any offers? You make a big deal about 6 players deciding to return. But did they even have a choice? Did anybody else want them? Did anybody else offer them more than what Purdue did? I’d like to know who they turned down!

At least Lymon made a few plays. He had the game at ND and I also remember a nice TD at Hawaii in a game we lost that I watched on rabbit ears in the middle of the night. He was a dumbass, but at least we didn’t pay him a bunch of money on top of his scholarship to play. I guess Green had a couple sacks but that loser made a large deposit in his bank account to be the worst corner I have ever seen
Lot of skill positions & secondary help but the lines still are “iffy”. Not much in the defensive interior & a Canadian and a couple UNLV guys on offense... 🤷♂️
Folks should be prepared for a 3-4 win season and be happy with that and anything after that is gravy.
