UofL is a commuter school, right?

For all of the

The most direct evidence is from a guy who did undergrad EE at Purdue and was a graduate TA for a sophomore EE class at Georgia Tech. His quote: “The professors at GT were mean to to those kids.”

I have a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Louisville.
That’s honestly pretty weak evidence. Listen, GT is a great school. The Purdue engineers will tell they consider GT our biggest rival particularly since they’ve passed many of our schools in the rankings in the past 10 years. I’m IE. We were #1 all four years I was there. GT is 1 now and I work with a bunch of very good GT engineers and we go at each other pretty hard. I do know probably 5-6 people who went to both (either/or) including my college roommate. Those that went to both without question think both schools are very comparable. To your point, their opinion can be influenced by where they did undergrad.

Now how any of this is related to Louisville’s coaching vacancy seems a bit of a reach.

Louisville is basically 4 years removed from being a mid-major. The only reason that they are a member of a Power-5 conference is Maryland left the ACC for the Big-10 and the ACC was desperate to find a replacement in a hurry and made the bad decision to bring in UofL. If you look at their academic rankings in the ACC, they are at the very bottom.

No, in fact I specifically said earlier that Purdue is good. However, just because an engineer went to Purdue doesn’t mean that they are better than one who went to a lower ranked school. Having worked alongside literally hundreds of engineers who went to school all over the country, if I ranked them in order of competence there would only be a VERY loose correlation to school ranking (the 2 guys I worked with who had MIT degrees were definetely standouts). However, I stand by what I said earlier that Purdue’s undergrad program is significantly easier than Georgia Tech’s. I have worked closely with 20+ grads of each school and any conversation I’ve heard over the past 10+ years regarding difficulty of curriculum was consistent in this regard.

Ok, so let me summarize:
1) The subject is how Purdue's academics are >> Louisville.
1a) Your response is that you knew two Purdue engineers who weren't very good. Then you bristle when people bring up small sample size and anecdotal evidence. You know what? I once met a Louisville grad who was competent as well. That doesn't mean the school is any good.
1b) You repeatedly bring GT to the conversation, and I fail to see the relevance. However, most people in the industry would agree that GT is a great engineering school, and that both GT and Purdue are 3 or 4 tiers above Louisville in quality.

I know man....that is pretty crazy. And already we have a Heisman winner and well, you dont.

Lol - even when UofL was a "mid-major" - it was still a better athletic department than Purdue was, despite all of that B1G welfare money. As for where it ranks academically in the ACC - well, the person that finishes last in their class at the College of Engineering at Purdue is still an engineer - correct?

Arguments over academics in regards to a coaching search boggles my mind.

If Brohm’s goal was to be at a top respectected academic institution, he wouldn’t be at either PU or UoL as both are mid-tier in their respective conferences.

Purdue has a better Engineering program. There's no doubt about that. I don't think it's important or relevant at all to anyone who isn't an Engineer. Jeff Brohm doesn't care either. So this whole thread is a whole lot of nothing.

Purdue is widely regarded as a fantastic academic institution. UL? Far from it.

And I'll bet that trophy looks great in the Purdue football case.

Oh wait...
Heisman is pretty cool, but perpetually overrated. What are Jason White and Eric Crouch up to these day? Selling insurance? Bet they would trade their trophy for an NFL career.

We have the Cradle of Quarterbacks. You can have Lamar and his trophy.

Johnny Unitas, Jeff Brohm, Brian Brohm, Teddy Bridewater and Lamar Jackson just to name a few of Louisville's quarterbacks. Could you give us a list of Purdue's quarterbacks I only know of one but I am sure there are more.

There’s that Louisville education at work!

Yikes. Purdue’s QB history blows yours out of the water.

Len Dawson
Bob Griese
Mike Phipps
Gary Danielson
Jim Everett
Mark Herrmann
Kyle Orton
Scott Campbell

Oh and Drew Brees

Purdue is tied with Alabama for the most SuperBowl winning quarterbacks, Purdue QB’s have won (and started) more NFL games than any other school, and thrown for the most yards and TD’s of any school.

But yeah tell me more about Teddy Bridgewater and some of the others.

A good school? Yes. One that ranks below Northwestern, Michigan, Maryland, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Penn State.

So yes, mid-tier Big 10.
Depending on what rankings you use, we are consistently 5th-8th in the conference. WSJ has us 3rd. Yes, we are proud of that. The B1G is the premier major college academic conference.

U of L was perfect for conference USA,,,,a city college like UC
And there are about 13 other schools in the sec that think the yuts are perfect for the sec - as a homecoming opponent - lol. I swear yut fans are the most miserable pathetic creatures on the planet. Some of them even think they know football - lol.

I guess with the annual bed crapping by stupes in full force - these mouth breathers are looking to infect other fan bases with their misery. Nice work Cletus.

I wasn't fortunate enough to attend Purdue or UofL, but these posts have taught me what the kids who were bullied in high school do when they go to college. They become academic bullies arguing about GPAs on a sports web site. Educated assholes is what comes to my mind.

I also learned that I am not supposed to support my hometown college athletics program because I didn't attend college. Funny stuff.

Instead of trying to convince the WWW that you are reeeaaallllyyy smart, you should be thanking God that you are blessed and college educated rather than sitting in a sea of sand on the other side of the globe.

Just my enlisted military opinion.

Sure

Len Dawson - SB IV Champ, SB IV MVP, Hall of Fame

Bob Griese - SB VII, SB VIII Champ, NFL MVP. 14-0 season, Hall of Fame

Gary Danielson - 13,000 + yards

Mike Phipps - 10,000 + yards, College Hall of Fame

Mark Hermann - College Hall of Fame

Jim Everett - 34,000+ yards

Drew Brees - SBXLIV Champ and MVP, - holds virtually every major record ,- first ballot HOF without doubt, Epitomoe of a Boilermaker

Kyle Orton - 18,000+ yards

My advice. Never ever get into a discussion about QB’s with a Purdue alumnus or fan. You will never win. Quarterback U wasn’t given to Purdue. it was earned by some damn awesome QB’s.

Louisville only has one guy who you can list with the ones I listed above. Johnny U

Brees>Jackson. You realize Purdue is better than Louisville in several things when it comes to our football history right?
And you realize Brohm grew up in Louisville and played at UofL, right? You’re trying to come up with a bunch of dumb reasons to justify something that you don’t have any comprehension of. Just stop, unless you want to keep looking dumb.

The SEC has large state universities in it....Louisville is trashy worthless city that had to take over the whole county to survive. The ACC should throw them out for cheating in every sport, it's a cesspool

Funny that with all of that HOF caliber talent, the winning percentage at the "Cradle" was .605 during those guys years there. I sure would have thought it would have been higher?

Weird.

Maybe so. Bad hires in key moments have killed momentum every single time.

But this I know

Drew Brees was a better College QB then Lamar Jackson could ever wish he could be.

You're right - places like Starkville, MS and you're hometown of Possum Holler are waaay better than Louisville. Maybe it's time for you to log off and brush your tooth.
