Uggghh...I didn’t like that response at all.

It has to be agonizingly difficult for Brohm.

For we Boilers, imagine for a moment being in a position to be looked upon as a savior at Purdue, even if you were in a great spot with a seemingly unlimited future. How strong would the pull be when, as Bear Bryant put it when he left A&M, "Mama called"? Imagine how difficult it would be to decline, to say no to Purdue. Can't speak for everyone here but for me that would be a torturous decision to make -- but then perhaps I am more sentimental than Brohm, and I hope so!

Add to that being a native of the town, the chance to enroll your son at your high school alma mater to carry on that tradition, etc. Those sorts of opportunities don't come around every day.

Still and all, I'm confident that Mitch and MBob will do everything in their power to keep Brohm and that he will remain our coach. They have done wonders in establishing and demonstrating a commitment to football, the community has embraced the Brohms and the program, and we are set up for unprecedented success.
For me, I coach baseball and Pat Lowry is the HC at HHS right now. He is a McCutcheon grad and I believe an All State player there. When Jake Burton left there, I’m sure he had the opportunity to go there. He didn’t. When that coach left, Pat didn’t put his name in either.

Yes, sometimes a person has an incredible pull to their home school and town. And some times, like Pat, he enjoys seeing his school do well and wants them to do well...just not as himself as the HC.

I think it is 50/50. I think if he ever envisioned going to Louisville at a later date in the distant future, he is not going to say anything derogetory about U of L pursuing him. I think Brohm has made too many commitments to his recruits to jump ship this soon. Louisville would be a demotion, that is not even debateable. If his family however wants to go to Louisville that might turn the tide against Purdue, not sure. I do wish this would get resolved one way or another quickly. Going to be hard to win the next 2 games if this is still hanging over the program. And everybody saying we can get a great replacement for Brohm if he does in fact leave; I am not so confident. Brohm is one of the hottest coaches in all of college football. What are the chances we can trap lightening in a bottle twice?

To me it sounded a lot like his stance with the Tennessee speculation last year. While I wish he would just come out and say what he intends, he just isnt wired that way.
For all we know louisville's athletic department may have burned a bridge when he was an assistant (There is nothing to back this just stating that none of us know one way or the other). We can all sit here and argue back and forth and try to read into every little word that is said but it won't matter in the end and coach is going to do what he feels is right for him.
I just hope that as fans and a community people respect what ever decisions are made and do not involve his family. Let's not be like iu fans going to Creans sons games and booing him, or being nasty to his wife, etc... while it would suck to lose Brohm this soon people need to remember it's just a game.
I am going to sit back and watch our next two games and hope that we get two big wins.
As far as recruiting I am not sure what impacts this may or may not have. I would feel a lot better if the early signing period had already taken place but it hasn't. Most likely his decision will be made prior to the early signing period and if he leaves some players will follow and sign there.
I do have faith that our ad will do what he can to keep Brohm but I also have faith that he would find a good replacement if he has to.

Louisville is kind of a dumpster fire right now. Even if he wants to be there, he might be wise to let another guy get through the next few years and be a coach removed from such a mess.

Sorry this is a little long, gave Wolegib a run for his money this one....

I will say a few things (I think he stays, BTW):

1) If you watch/listen to his presser when he is asked if coaching UofL has been his dream position, he replies 'no'. More telling are the few sentences after that. He really kind of stumbled around a little bit like realizing that his flat out 'No it has not been' sounded a bit harsh. He then went on to just kind of wrap a bow around the question that was essentially of course I hope my alma mater does well.

It looked/sounded to me (once again watching the press conference, not just reading the transcript) that going back to Louisville may not be front and foremost in his mind.

2) From a professional standpoint, why would he shoot this down right now? He's letting the fanbase kind of negotiate on his behalf regarding his contract without him having to publicly say, 'hey you need to pay me'. I think this is brilliant because it implicitly drives his value up without him having to point at himself. Is this not one of the things that everyone loves about his humility?

2.5) Brohm has stated that he thinks that the national talk around the UT position last season had a positive impact on Purdue's visibility and recruiting. If this is the case, why not let the situation fester a little bit with Purdue/Brohm being in the limelight before putting the rumors to rest? If he says 'no' to UofL next week or in two, will we lose commitments? The only real possible downside (besides having the fanbase in a tizzy) is an unfocused team. I'll trust that Brohm can manage that and will address it if need be.

3) I don't live too far from him and my kids are around the same age as his. I am not a friend of his and have limited interactions with him. BUT, he seems extremely comfortable here and I just don't see any 'reasons' for him to have to change. Albeit, if being closer to his family and where he grew up was a huge factor, then there's nothing to change that. My point is, there is nothing here pushing him/his family away.

4) The draw back to your alma mater is nice, but having lived through an incredible undergrad experience, moving to the east coast, and then returning, is not the end-all-be-all that everyone makes it out to be. It is a VERY nice to be back among friends and to have the activities (sporting and otherwise) that goes along with being back close to Purdue (for me). However, there is no way to go back and re-kindle the specialness of your youth. In some regards, I think that being a little further away makes the returns much more special than living so close that it is just something that is always there to be taken for granted.

Just want say this. And it’s not meant to be a dig on Matt Painter at all. But if and when he retires/moves on. I wouldn’t want to hire an alumnus ever again. It’s not all what it’s cracked up to be.

Louisville isn’t going to cut Jeff any slack, and neither should they. If Louisville had lost to E Mich they would be killing him. Heck by next year we probably won’t cut him the same amount of slack either.

At some point his alma mater is going to fire him. It’s what happens in coaching.

I’m sure you guys can find another coach that is able to lose at home to Eastern Michigan. Shouldn’t be tough.

It's funny to watch you rodents get a new sense of of a backbone because you beat us. I mean it's not like we lost to Illinois.
