When asked abou the Louisville vacancy Jeff Brohm said this:

To me that answer had an ominous undertone. ****.

I personally feel he left his players and recruits out to hang. There are already people on both sides attacking current players and recruits for insight.

this may be the first thing I don't agree or respect that coach has done.

Edit : because of that I don't think we win any of our last 2 games.

It has to be agonizingly difficult for Brohm.

For we Boilers, imagine for a moment being in a position to be looked upon as a savior at Purdue, even if you were in a great spot with a seemingly unlimited future. How strong would the pull be when, as Bear Bryant put it when he left A&M, "Mama called"? Imagine how difficult it would be to decline, to say no to Purdue. Can't speak for everyone here but for me that would be a torturous decision to make -- but then perhaps I am more sentimental than Brohm, and I hope so!

Add to that being a native of the town, the chance to enroll your son at your high school alma mater to carry on that tradition, etc. Those sorts of opportunities don't come around every day.

Still and all, I'm confident that Mitch and MBob will do everything in their power to keep Brohm and that he will remain our coach. They have done wonders in establishing and demonstrating a commitment to football, the community has embraced the Brohms and the program, and we are set up for unprecedented success.

Someone else posted this in another thread so I am stealing the note, but I think Brohm answered exactly how he should have. When you consider he is also going to look out for himself, as he should, and try and get a raise out of either us or UofL, then he said what he should have.

I have little doubt that he has told the players exactly what is going on and what he is telling the media is something completely different.

I am sorry to have to say this but you will most likely win your last game.

What would Brohn say? No, absolutely not going to Louisville? No coach says that. I read nothing into this. He didn't comment last year on the Tennessee job.

It's real simple. If he wants to be at Purdue, he will. If he doesn't, Bobinski will find a coach that does. I'd love for him to stay. But he's not the only good coach out there.

Coaches shoot down rumors about their names being included in other coaching searches all the time.

And then then end up leaving. Coaches also say what Coach B said and stay all the time.

Basically, there is no point reading anything this because there is nothing there one way or the other.

“Its important for me to not comment on any speculation.” is the quote I’d worry about.

If you’re 100% happy and staying, then there is no negative to squelching the speculation and sending a message to your players and recruits watching.

Seemed eerily similar to the Scott Frost to NEB saga. Not long ago I was firmly in the Brohm stays camp; now I’m 50/50.

WHAT? lol

You think 100 football players are getting constant updates and keeping secrets? LOL They'd be the last to know, just like when any coaching change happens.

I’m thinking Brady Brohm is our ace in the hole on this. Teenagers are not big on relocating after establishing HS friends and I truly think he loves the football team and the community. I see him begging his family to stay here.

According to L'ville message boards, Brady is in the eighth grade and it would be compelling for his dad to take the job and enroll his son in Trinity since his whole family went there and his dad still coaches there.

Wives and kids know the relocation drill better than anyone. They’re extremely adaptable and would be more so if their new home is in a place where they already own a house. I’ve known the kids of Purdue coaches and, while they loved their time in WL, they liked their previous and future homes, too (one even came back and attended Purdue after his / her dad left. I guarantee they’ll get behind whatever decision is made, but don’t think for a minute that they’d impede a move to Louisville.

On the broader front, it’s pretty obvious he’ll be open to discussing the Louisville job when and if he’s approached. That doesn’t mean he’s unhappy or that he’s leaving, but he could’ve slammed the door on any possibility of that occurring and he didn’t do that. If it happens, it will be right after the IU game, but not before.

This, along with Louisville, are extremely compelling reasons to leave, even for similar money (i.e. it won’t be about how many millions since it will be a lot at either location). I’d imagine 90%+ alums of West Lafayette HS and Purdue with commensurate massive family history like he has with Louisville would be overwhelmingly compelled to make their history and cement their legend at “home”. That assumes CJB believes he can make his alma mater a winner, which I have little doubt he does (it is how he is wired). My heart tells me he ain’t leaving, but my head tells me it is a high likelihood. I won’t blame him one bit if he goes and will wish him the best of luck turning around that cesspool down there.

Are we going to have ten threads generated every time a coach is fired?

I heard Green Bay could be opening up soon. Why take the Louisville job when you know he'd rather take the Packers job!

This job, above all others that exist, is uniquely special to his heart. That is why the rash of postings.

To me that sounds like he hasn't decided either way yet.
Ding, Ding, Ding
We have a winner!
While keyboard warriors are wasting time speculating, Jeff Brohm is hard at work preparing for Wisconsin. Don't we know this guy well enough by now? How consumed he is by football? How driven he is to win?

I think we'd all be surprised how little time he is spending thinking about this right now.

You've cracked the code! That of course makes complete sense. Jeff's 8th grade son is in charge of where his father continues his career and where the Brohm family lives. Never mind that the bulk of his entire extended family - from grandparents on down live in Louisville, and the chance for him to go to the same HS as his dad and uncles, and with Louisville friends that he has for longer than he knew that WL existed - of course Brady's two years in WL are going to top that and, will be the deciding factor.

I guess no offense intended but, if you are pinning your hope of retaining JB on his 8th grade son's wishes - you are not a serious person and have zero understanding of either big time sports HCs, or family dynamics in general.

Or he can live at home and go to Trinity

This reminds Cat fans of what we went through with Barnett.

Be glad when he is gone. Get someone who wants to be at Purdue.
You guys have shown my team (IU) and other bottom dwellers what can be done with good coaches. We won’t pay for a good coach and their staff. I hope you find one that wants to be at Purdue because obviously, you can win at an Indiana school not named Norte Dame.

Good luck
