Two things I enjoyed seeing the last game in particular.

1) I liked Myles putting the ball on the floor and creating problems by driving the ball. I hope this is controlled and continues.
2) I like Trey kicking the ball out. As good as he has been, he took the single coverage when he got the ball perhaps too much to heart previously and the opposing teams knew to sag towards him even if not an initial double early as they too knew what single coverage meant for Purdue.

Now, every team looks very good when shot are falling and Purdue is not going to be 1.6 eff I doubt in the future, but the effort of the team was good and Purdue can beat a lot of teams with that effort, and intelligent play, even if the shots don't fall quite as often

Yes, something has changed or someone has told him to be more aggressive (or he may just read our posts 😂). But him doing this puts pressure (at least somewhat) on the defense to have to pay attention to him doing this. He doesn’t have to always score, as him just driving and kicking or dribbling with purpose makes it a tad easier on the big 3 to get in better position. Hope it continues and hope Heide does more of it too.

Good call out here. He is a beast 1 on 1 so teams have to double him if they want to stop him. For the tournament, I assume all teams will be throwing a double team at him, in various ways no doubt, so hope he is ready. If Myles, cam, gicarri and CJ can hit those kick outs at a decent clip, we will be hard to beat.

Very true. When shots arent falling, definitely need to not give up easy rebounds and limit the 50/50 balls. Illinois is very, very good at rebounding (they miss 20 3s a game so they have a lot of opportunities). So boilers better be ready to find a body and box out.

Looking forward to seeing how we play in a hostile environment.

Re: Colvin

Love to see him drive but he needs to finish. He seems to favor going left but doesn't finish strong..like he's not comfortable with it. He had what I thought was a sure layup with his left hand but switched to his right and got it swatted.

Well the more opportunities he gets the better he becomes. A lot of ppl all have higher expectations of him and cam than evn the big 3.

It’s very difficult to hit shots from 3 on low volume and also finish 100% of the time near the rim when you get 1-3 opportunities…especially as a 19 year old. I do like the enthusiasm and expectations, it will come the more opportunities he gets.

yes, so he appears okay dribbling both ways, but uncomfortable shooting with his left. He will learn to finish, but the opposition has no idea whether he can or not. I think he can, but as you caught...the left hand appears suspect at this time. On the other site it makes mention that CJ was uncomfortable with his left, but drove and finished with his left once last game. The main thing is as long as he doesn't turn it over or end up shooting bad shots early in the clock is that he puts offensive pressure on the defense and that is a plus for Purdue. I think that and Trey kicking it out every now and then are a great things. That either results in an open shot or keeps the D out on the perimeter and not helping on him...

I like TKR kicking it out lately. I also wish Smith would start kicking it out to the shooters more often. This team shoots well and it will need that going forward to overcome size and athletic discrepancies.

I think Braden does do that, but it is usually in transition or after the Trey ball screen. Generally, Braden doesn't drive without the Trey screen unless he sees a path to the basket. Giccari, Myles and Cam have all improved a bit the last couple of games shooting the ball and grabbing some boards. Fletcher is pretty steady and has been. Still, as you suggest when the people are stroking it from the perimeter it can open up the court for Braden and Trey...AND with this team the misses might allow Purdue to grab a few more rebounds with longer bounces. Purdue just has to make sure they have a safety back in case the opposition has a push and so Purdue cannot be all below the FT line in case Braden drives and kicks it out along the baseline...which Purdue traditionally does a good job
