Truths about Purdue basketball this year

This post looks better than ever following the Louisville loss. Its time to bench Haas and start bringing him off the bench.

Its time to move Vince and Swanigan to their natural positions at the 4 and 5 respectively.

Its time to go defense over offense and start Basil
Its time to start Carsen Edwards in place of Haas and roll with

PJ
Carsen
Basil
Vince
Swanigan

Mathias sixth man, Haas plays backup center and spells Swanigan instead of playing them together.

I think I'd sooner bench Vince in favor of Carsen.
PJ
CE
DM
CS
IH
Bring it in Vince at the fist sub for either Caleb or Isaac

Apparently, CMP agrees....

Yea, good call on benching Mathias and Haas. Could you explain why benching Mathias is a good idea?

Hes really bad defensively. Basil isnt nearly the offensive weapon Dakota is, but hes alright and hes Purdues best defender.

Ok I want to convede Dakota has been very good defensively 3 mins into this game. If he plays defense like this consistently, he immediately becomes our best player over Swanigan imo.

He's been doing that all year. You let your own biases dilute you. Go back and watch the Nova game and see who defended Josh Hart well. Dakota was the only one.

Yeah....there's a reason DM and CS are the only two players averaging over 30 mins per game. Right now, to me, they are the two most important/consistent players overall.

Ive literally rewatched the villanova game 3 times on youtube since it happened. Ive paid attention to the hart mathias matchup late since everyone keeps harping on it as Dakota shutting him down. I feel this is results oriented. Hart just happened to miss when Dakota was guarding him. It did not seem like great defense. He did a much better job of staying in front of Hart and not cobceding the layups Vince did, but he still surrended decent looks and playmaking opportunities to Hart. I just cant agree he was awesome vs Hart

Now, on the other hand, he was awesome last night. Cline wasnt very good defensively. Carsen is pretty good defensively already. Basil had one blow by but mostly played well and Vince looked really sharp defensively last night for the most part - turns out hes a great defender when hes guarding his position more!

Great players (like Hart) can get their shot at almost any time. When playing someone like that, you have to make them uncomfortable. Dakota stayed in front of him and forced 18 footers with a hand in Hart's face. That is following the scouting report and excellent defense.
