1. Isaac Haas doesnt have the conditioning to start. He needs to come off the bench and play 20-25 minutes a game.

2. Caleb Swanigan and Carsen Edwards are far and away the best players on the team and should play 30+ minutes a game, regardless of whether theyre struggling in a particular game or not. Especially Carsen, who needs time to adjust to the college game still. He will be special. Hes essentially Trey Burke 2.0.

3. Dakota/Vince/Ryan Cline - None of those 3 players offer enough offense to justify playing over Basil Smotherman, who is just an awesome defender. Smotherman should be starting and playing big minutes. Hes definitely Purdues best defender and has B1G DPoTY potential.

4. Spike is better than PJ Thompson but its so close it doesnt really matter who starts.

5. The starting lineup should be:

PJ or Spike
Carsen Edwards
Basil
Vince
Swanigan

Dakota and Jacquil(wheb healthy) should round out the rotation(8 man rotation is ideal in college basketball) Sorry Cline, shouldnt have got drunk in the offseason. You lost your rotation spot due to it this season.

There we have it! After just 3 preseason games, we have our starters identified and they will play until tired, then we know exactly who will rotate in. Thanks.

I don't suppose you would entertain a different starting line up based on who we play would you? I don't mean to sound too much like a smart ass but making this sort of definitive post based on playing a Division II team might be a bit premature. I know, it is just an opinion, but it is full of player criticisms that might not be valid, but stick in internet arm chair coach's heads who read this stuff. That is why I wanted to contest your post, not because I wanted to disrespect you.

Here is an example of an error that can creep into your analysis based on the Georgia game: In the Nova game, Dakota shut down Hart, who was killing us. Evidently, his foot-speed was quick enough (combined with his basketball smarts) to stay with one of Nova's best players. Dakota also makes some great passes, and he is hitting 3-pt shots at a 50% rate. I think I would start him in place of CE. Dakota doesn't make mistakes in games. Carson is still a freshman.

Dakota is, far and away, our worst defensive player. His kinutes need to be shortened and good defensive players(Smotherman, Carsen) need to occupy those munutes. IMO obviously.

Believe Georgia St. Is D1. Or do the call it FBS too?

Hollowell isn't a slouch.

Not sure I can agree. As you said, it just an opinion, and I respect yours. I will contend that V. Edwards has struggled the most of all the starters, from the defensive standpoint. He was abused by Hart in the Nova game. It was Mathias that slowed him down (maybe he got tired too, all those drives to the hoop might have taken it toll). I would also think that VE gets the toughest player to guard many times.

You might be right about GSU. I really don't know much about them.

...and yes, Hollowell (the movement) is a better player than I thought. Too bad he didn't get through the double secret probation at IU.

They played in the NCAA either last year or the year before. They are also the final destination for a few very good transfers. Ron Hunter is no slouch and Purdue is actively pursuing one of his sons to play in west Lafayette.

It's hard to shorten Mathias' minutes. Making 3s the way he does also opens up the high-low game. His d does need to improve. I will grant that.

???? Carsen got shredded on D last night.
Also was only 2 for 8 with both made shots nice drives for layups. But couldn't hit from outside. Definitely needs to play because he is a great change of pace from the other guards. But I can't see starting or even more than 20 minutes until he plays with more consistency (adjusts to college game).

For the most part, I've liked Matt's substitution patterns the 1st 3 games. Except for not having Spike in at the end of Nova game. Having Spike and PJ in at the same time against GSU down the stretch was interesting. We have lots of pieces that all have something to bring. Too early to say which should get starter minutes.

2015, Heller, out of the Sun Belt. Hunter is a good coach, and he ended up getting hurt in the aftermath of the conference championship game. GS then beat #3-seed Baylor before bowing out to Xavier.

Also, Shon Morris on the broadcast kept saying to force Hollowell to his left....he was getting to his right too easily.

Disagree. Matthias is a better than average defender on this team right now. He also is the most reliable perimeter player that Purdue has and he is doing a tremendous job of feeding the post. People complain about his outside shooting, but he has picked up where he left off last season going 7/15 from 3, thus far. His made threes last night were very important in changing the outcome of the game.

Also, Carsen Edwards does not need to be getting 30 minutes a game right now. He's got a lot of talent, but he is playing poorly and hasn't come close to earning that kind of minutes, yet. In games where Purdue has firm control I'd play him more to get him game experience, but when games are in doubt Painter needs to play the guys who give him the best chance of winning.

Is that Eric hunter ?

I think it's pretty clear that we are looking at a .500 boilermaker team this year. Just not a lot of talent on this team. It will be another bottom half finish in the big ten and we will be lucky to sneak in the tournament. I miss the days
No doubt. We will be lucky to finish above the bottom of the BIG. The really funny thing is that we will beat IU both times we play. At least "we" can revel in that. By the way, I like how you use the word "we" in your posts.

I'm really glad the season has been decided already. Now I don't have to even bother watching or listening and can catch up on my beer drinking.

Hollowell would be extremely good if he had a left hand. How do you get this far without developing that?

I think Vince is a much better defender than hes looked so far this season primarily because I think hes playing out of position. If you put him at the 4 and ask him to giard fours, he will look much better Id think.

Thanks for that riveting input.

you are welcome.

Don't get me wrong, I like Carsen Edwards. He's got nice game and could be a good player. But to state he's basically Trey Burke is setting up for massive disappointment. Let the kid be his own player and play his own game rather than trying to live up to somebody else.

LOL

NPOY version 2.0????
I don't think anyone can take the OP's post seriously...particularly when the title states "truths" but then they list a bunch of opinions. I agree with only one of his opinions (Caleb is one of our best players)

Looks like their are lots of versions above about the TRUTH about Purdue basketball.

The idiocy in this thread, albeit opinions, is baffling.
Agree completely. And, claiming that a statement is an opinion is just a way for he who makes the statement to lessen the blow of being wrong. It doesn't mean it isn't idiotic. Just my opinion.

Youre a dumbass
You think the following, but I'm a dumbass:

1. Haas shouldn't start
2. Vince and Dakota shouldn't play over Basil
3. Spike should start over PJT

You are always welcome to your opinions, but when you state them on a public board, you are asking for others to judge your basketball knowledge. I think your opinions are a bit far out there, so you need to get over someone disagreeing with you. No name calling needed. When you do that it adds to the negative opinion others are building of you.
