Yeah I've wondered about Card as well. The portal was closed. I’ve noticed a lot of names of players entering it from other teams as well. I guess there are always exceptions $$$$$.
Maybe players are given x amount of days if there is a coaching change regardless of the supposed cut off date.
Card supposedly had another season of eligibility left. Did he enter the portal?
Thought he still had his COVID year, but maybe it doesn’t matter as apparently we’re going to hear soon about rule changes allowing all athletes fifth year of playing eligibility.Yeah I've wondered about Card as well.
I thought it was 30 days after a coach leaves, which it's been more than. But who knows, there's probably dozens of loopholes, all designed to make these kids more and more like free agents and not collegiate athletes.I think that the rules are different if a coaching change is involved, but I also don't really understand them.
Card redshirted in 2020 and then played 4 full seasons, he is out of eligibility I believe.Thought he still had his COVID year, but maybe it doesn’t matter as apparently we’re going to hear soon about rule changes allowing all athletes fifth year of playing eligibility.
Report: NCAA considering rule change to allow fifth year of eligibility
More changes could be coming to college sports. Friday morning, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that the NCAA is considering a new rule that would grant playwww.si.com
I just went back and checked and he has three years of eligibility left upon arrival at Purdue. It’s possible this article is wrong, but his 4 full seasons included the Covid shortened season that I thought didn’t count against players.Card redshirted in 2020 and then played 4 full seasons, he is out of eligibility IU believe.
He took a redshirt in 2020, which wouldn't have counted toward eligibility anyway. He then played 8, 12, 11, and 10 games in 4 seasons from 21-24. He's done.I just went back and checked and he has three years of eligibility left upon arrival at Purdue. I haven’t seen Cards name in the portal, but no one seems to be mentioning him for next season either.
Sources: Ex-Texas QB Card commits to Purdue
Hudson Card committed to Purdue on Monday, sources told ESPN, giving first-year coach Ryan Walters a key early building block.www.espn.com
Circling back to my original post about the Sports Illustrated report this week…not if ncaa announces a fifth year of eligibility next week. Players would have 6 years to play 5 full seasons (no redshirts, no grey shirts), just an expansion of player rights. It’s an attempt to get ahead of the pending court battle with Vandys qb.He took a redshirt in 2020, which wouldn't have counted toward eligibility anyway. He then played 8, 12, 11, and 10 games in 4 seasons from 21-24. He's done.
Maybe if there was some loophole, possibly no one offered Card any 💰to play.Players were supposed to have 30 days after their Coach left. The rules were kind of vague about what coach position qualified. Did any Purdue coach leave in the last 30 days?
I find it curious one projected starting safety enters the portal on the same day another safety commits.
I’m sure if Card wanted to play, he’d find a loophole somewhere

Thanks for clearing that up, and now the ncaa seems poised to just give a fifth year of playing eligibility. Card isn’t the best case to consider, but I would have taken another year if AOC without complaintYes, this is my understanding, too. He played two full years @ Texas after 2020 and two full years @ Purdue. I think some of the confusion is because of a possible redshirt in 2020 that he would have five years after that.....and that's not how the COVID year works, IIRC. Essentially, 2020 didn't count at all against the five years to play four (whether you played or red-shirted), but then you still have only five years to use your four years of eligibility after that - subject to the usual waivers like medical hardship, etc.
Had he taken a redshirt in 2021 or 2022, then yes, he would have had another year.
