thought the portal was closed

The portal was closed. I’ve noticed a lot of names of players entering it from other teams as well. I guess there are always exceptions $$$$$.

Maybe players are given x amount of days if there is a coaching change regardless of the supposed cut off date.

Card supposedly had another season of eligibility left. Did he enter the portal?

Yeah I've wondered about Card as well.

Thought he still had his COVID year, but maybe it doesn’t matter as apparently we’re going to hear soon about rule changes allowing all athletes fifth year of playing eligibility.

I think that the rules are different if a coaching change is involved, but I also don't really understand them.
I thought it was 30 days after a coach leaves, which it's been more than. But who knows, there's probably dozens of loopholes, all designed to make these kids more and more like free agents and not collegiate athletes.

Card redshirted in 2020 and then played 4 full seasons, he is out of eligibility I believe.

I just went back and checked and he has three years of eligibility left upon arrival at Purdue. It’s possible this article is wrong, but his 4 full seasons included the Covid shortened season that I thought didn’t count against players.

I haven’t seen Cards name in the portal, but no one seems to be mentioning him for next season either.

He took a redshirt in 2020, which wouldn't have counted toward eligibility anyway. He then played 8, 12, 11, and 10 games in 4 seasons from 21-24. He's done.

Circling back to my original post about the Sports Illustrated report this week…not if ncaa announces a fifth year of eligibility next week. Players would have 6 years to play 5 full seasons (no redshirts, no grey shirts), just an expansion of player rights. It’s an attempt to get ahead of the pending court battle with Vandys qb.

What is sick about the whole transfer process is there are players going on their 3rd or 4th school in three and four years. There are also 24 and 25 year mature men playing college ball. The NCAA should have enhanced and stricter academic standards for the players, open the Portal after the 2nd week of January and name someone like Coach Nick Saban, as Commissioner to oversee this hot mess! What would also help if they put some pressure on the NFL to allow younger players to be drafted as one and dones in the NBA does. The NFL is getting a free ride and the benefits of the college minor leagues at no cost to them!
