I was fortunate to have a high draft number. I didn’t experience the Vietnam killings that many had seen or other horrible war sightings.
The thing about the draft was that Johnson, McNamara and Westmoreland kept telling everyone that the war could be won. We believed them. Then, 20 years later, McNamara published his memoirs and we learned that they knew all the while that the war could not be won – yet they continued sending American troops to die there.
