is it the QB's and their poor decisions and int's?

OL and their ability to open running lanes when that should be their strength?

Skill positions lacking playmakers and lacking ability to make things happen when the ball is in their hands?

Playcalling and game prep?

Just curious what you all think beyond just saying 'the defenses we have played have been good because when you get gifted 4 TO's and only get 3 points...something is a miss.

The lack of running game is probably the biggest issue. Against below average defenses (and with Fuller) we had a modest running game to keep the defense honest. IMO Knox has been underutilized since Fuller went down.

Seriously?

A team who has won 9 games over the last 4 years and your questioning why they are struggling?

WR get no separation. Need quality receivers

QB is starting his first season. Hasn’t ever seen defenses like he is seeing now?

OL talent needs improvement too.

But foremost I feel this team can/could win the rest of their schedule. Will they? Let’s enjoy the season and find out!!!

Yes, seriously. I'm generating conversation and discussion to see what others are feeling.

uh, holy (crap), dude!

Over the past 3 weeks we've played #8 UM and #7 UW, both defense-oriented teams, with a first year Purdue coach who has a team playing at a level leading the self-professed experts to scratch their collective heads in disbelief, and you're bemoaning our offensive struggles?

Never mind that we were never really out of either of the two losses, and only lost today due to a few poorly timed mistakes (of which we have ZERO margin for error!).

And the other game sandwiched in there was a win with 132 yards rushing (!) and 307 yards passing for a total of 439 total yards, and you're complaining about OFFENSE?

I know the thin-skinned observers might dare call me 'trollish', but that's just not using your noggin!

Some good points, but it sounds like excuses for a 3rd year QB. Don't make excuses for him. He's been here and should know better.

But, our WRs are not displaying the killer instinct needed to beat teams like UM and UW. They're not attacking a ball when it's in the air. Too often they're letting it come to them. GO GET THE D@MN THING.

But, they're learning. And, they'll be studs in a year or two.

I think it's a combination of all minusnthe playcalling. Our receivers have dropped a TON of balls. This team lacks true playmakers at the receiver position. Our OL is decent in the run game, but average at best in pass protection. Sindelar needed to throw that ball away. He knows it and he'll learn from it. Elijah throws a good ball and once he is sourrounded by good WR's he'll look even better. Hopkins is a stud at TE

I think it is mostly that the O-line needs to play better, in both run and pass protection. Way too many sacks today.

Also, now that we are into the conference schedule, every opponent has seen film on what Purdue under Brohm likes to do, so there is less margin for error. Especially against disciplined defenses like Wisconsin that don't get fooled by mis-direction.

Recruiting neglect for 4+ years. All three had more talent and have had much more recent success. All three opponents are just better than us. We did find a way to beat the one of the three with the least amount of talent at home. We match up poorly with powerful teams. It will be a few years before we are at least close to equal.

Again, I stated clearly at the end of my post that I wanted to see what others think beyond just that the defenses were very good. I'm not complaining at all...trying to see what everyone's thoughts are.

And your post is trollish because you clearly didn't bother to read the post in its' entirety. Your initial answer is totally fine in that you truly feel the defenses Purdue has played are the fact and nothing else...but again your tone is totally trollish and your final thought follows through with that. If that's just who you naturally are as a person, that's fine...I'll ensure to judge your posts accordingly.

Ahhhh . . . !

I think I understand the disconnect!

When I saw your headline:

The offense has now truly struggled the last three weeks...

I thought you meant that the offense has now truly (emphasis mine) struggled the last three weeks.

Along with the questions that seemed definitive in that position:

is it the QB's and their poor decisions and int's?
OL and their ability to open running lanes when that should be their strength?

Skill positions lacking playmakers and lacking ability to make things happen when the ball is in their hands?

Playcalling and game prep?

Just curious what you all think beyond just saying 'the defenses we have played have been good because when you get gifted 4 TO's and only get 3 points...something is a miss.

Especially that "something is a miss (sic)" position. It sure SEEMED like you were stating something is, er, "a miss."

In fact, it sure seemed like you were advancing the idea the offense is struggling.

But, apparently it is MY error you posted that in the manner you did.

I think I'm slowly getting the hang of Al Gore's internet forum thangy.

My bad. My 'trollish' bad.

You can't discredit they have struggled...I am asking if anyone believes the troubles for those struggles lies somewhere else other than the defenses are very good.

And notice that I haven't shared my personal opinion at this point other than the offense has struggled. I could do that if you'd like and you'd probably be surprised at how similar that oponion probably is. You just seem to want to be a constant pain in the ass...which again you are entitled to do.

Really?

You think our performance against Minny was "struggling"?

A team that has a fair amount of Head Coaching consistency? A fair amount of talent, compared to where we are? A game with over 400 yards of Purdue OFFENSE? To you that's struggling?

Man, I don't understand, and I'm not sure I want to. Two teams, one #8, one #7, and we're in the game. Both loaded(!!!) defensively.

I'm not sure what you're expecting, but whatever it is, if you're not pleased with our performance I don't think it's realistic.

4 to's in a half coupled with just over 200 yards (wisc) and 189 (UM) along with 7 TO's in three games...yes, that's struggling.

You're now talking about mistakes.

439 yards of offense in a game against a B1G opponent isn't 'struggling.'

You're now trying to find evidence to support your hypothesis, instead of examining the evidence and forming a hypothesis.

To be clear, you're not alone.

The prior week's knee-jerk, emotional reaction about who should be playing at QB was the same thing.

The reality is, this team has to play near flawless football to please some people and put up W's against elite (UM and UW) competition.

Otherwise, well . . . this thread.

Yep you're ragging on a third year QB that redshirt ed his first year and his first two years were in the DH/Shooper era. He's now with a coaching staff that can and will develop QBs. We're already light years ahead of last year. We lost today to a Top Ten team at their house. There is zero reason for the kind of posts I'm seeing tonight.

No 'ragging' here. We're on the same page. There's also some accountability which will occur with today's performance.

Coaching?????

Going in I thought Blough moved the ball better but was mistake prone! I thought Sindelar was a better passer, but only when given plenty of time to throw the ball! And we saw against both Michigan and UW what happens when our line cannot provide Sindelar the time he needs to throw the ball! We struggle! Our defense has looked great all year, but if Sindelar is our future he has to be able to deliver faster our online needs to give him more time! We are successful against teams with mediocre defenses, But we will struggle against good defensive teams.

I don't blame our lack of a running game because many teams have been successful with just a passing oriented offense! Our receivers need to get seperation and make an effort to catch passes thrown in their direction! I blame our receivers more than Sindelar.

I feel if offensive line would play a little better, that would help all other areas on offense

In all three losses we are doing the very best we can with the O-line and Wideouts we have!

You can only pull a rabbit out of your hat so many times with trick plays! No doubt with the next class of recruits and/or JUCO’s it will get better as we have the coaches now!

Ahhh, this is driving me insane. I'm not saying any of those things is the problem, rather I'm trying to see what everyone MIGHT think is the issue to generate discussion.
This staff is now trying to play big boy football. I questioned at the hiring if they were prepared for this level. Emotion will get you close, but in the end it;s the one call the coach makes at the right time. I personally think Blough should be named the starter and unless injured should remain at that position the rest of the year.

it is a shame that on the blocked kick the player came up lame, just bad luck. hope he will make a quick recovery. who knows how the game plays out if that goes for a td

It really is our defense that has carried us through the first half of the season. And I say that from the perspective that if games came down to a shootout, we'd be getting blown out. I think we all expected that Brohm would come in and we'd be a point churning machine, but I think it's obvious that we don't have the personnel to do it given the type of offense (if there was one) the previous staff recruited for. Most guilty culprits are probably our patchwork o-line and lack of overall speed from the receiver spots. The offense has looked better than it has in the past 4 seasons but it's by no means good. But to the point, Brohm himself said there were 3 games that Purdue would need to be perfect in to really have a chance at winning - those 3 games now have already been played.

i like what you're saying but, i believe the offense will be fine with either qb in the game for the remainder of the schedule. the defense the mighty boilers have seen against mich and wisc is the best they will see this year(not sure about a bowl game)

boilers will be ok on offense if they limit turnovers imo

i like what you're saying ossim. the defense they've seen recently (mich and wisc) is as good as they'll see the rest of the season. the offense will be fine whoever plays qb
