The longer this drags on without a signature - the less confident I am

Nathan Baird reporting that Swanigan is not visiting Purdue today.

The more we go without a signature - the more likely someone like UK gets involved.

The good news is that the kid only has until the 20th to sign to play this fall.

Me thinks that if we don't get a signature by the end of the weekend then he probably isn't coming here.

Yep. Just posted about Baird's tweet in the other thread. This is getting wild. Would think a quick re-commit would be good for Purdue; longer open period probably not as good.

Well I would hope that when he decided to de-commit he already had a plan in mind.

I doubt he's just going to twist in the wind waiting for another suitor like UK or whomever to become MORE involved then they already were before he chose MSU.

I mean, UK was involved before, weren't they??

Regardless, since he dropped MSU and started this fire-storm of internet, I would think his mind is made up. I'm not going to worry about our chances RE to how long it takes.

Maybe he had a test today.
Wouldn't that be known last night though when it was first reported that he was expected to visit Purdue today? Tests aren't usually an out-of-the-blue surprise.

I don't know, this is all coming so fast its hard to keep it in focus. At this point, I think I'm more nervous than excited. Bad information floating around, visiting then not visiting, it's just starting to have a "funny" kind of feel to it. When things are happening fast and taking sharp turns for no apparent reason, there are often some non-basketball discussions, etc. going on behind the scenes. I'm in no way convinced that's the case here, but it's fair to say it's starting to feel a little out of the ordinary to me.

That's strange, Doug Griffiths just tweeted about an hour ago that he is visiting today.

I can't stress enough how it is not worth your while to get too caught up in Twitter reporting.

With the internet news firestorm, people often take what other people are reporting and report it as their own, even though it's all being reported based on the 1 single report. So it's not really verified.

And add in Twitter where you don't really get much room to expand your thoughts and facts aren't really hashed out/explained.

Look at the whole Dakich situation. He's all over the place and hasn't really explained where he's getting any info.

Then you have someone else saying he's visiting Purdue without giving any sort of reference.

Take it all with a grain of salt.

I don't have a real good feeling about all of this. Taking a believe it when I see it attitude. You'd think there might be a comment out there from his "camp". But...they don't owe us anything I suppose.

Part of the reason this recruitment has come off as "crazy" is because he's kept his recruitment pretty close to the vest. There wasn't a lot of great info throughout. That doesn't make them dramatic, but when there's a demand for information and the hard facts aren't there to report, you get a lot of mis-information.

You're correct about him not explaining where his info comes from, but he's maintained the position that Swanigan is Purdue bound. I hope he's right.

He does this because there is no consequence if he's wrong. And a huge upside in credibility with his radio show audience if he's right. If Swanigan doesn't come here he can easily say, well this happened which changed the outcome but I was correct at the time I said it. He's done it before and will do it again. He's playing his audience for ratings is all. No one was paying attention to him at all when this broke. He wasn't the first or even the 3rd to start talking about it, but he puts a vague tweet out there that it's done with 0 I REPEAT ZERO sources cited or sourced, and boom he's the credible source for everyone else to source. This is the world of media we live in today. It's not being right it's being first. And look at the attention he's getting not just here but nationally, and I bet his Radio show had higher ratings today.

In his beginning of the show rant, he actually something to the effect of what I bolded. You are completely correct. Welcome to the days of Twitter when no sources are required, and it makes no difference if you are right or not, as long as you get retweets, favorites, and attention.... Exactly what Dakich wants and got today.

Ya that's fine and dandy but it still doesn't mean that major guys will use him again as a credible source. Jerry meyer has switched him to verballed to us, he won't think lightly of it if it turns out to be hot air then more hot air back to him from dakich

They don't have to. I think the major thing here that people are missing is it doesn't matter what he says. He's not a reporter. He is not in the business of news or being a source. He's a sports personality whose job is to get ratings. Period. That gives him extra access to areas that people mistake as credibility in times like this.

Pretty sure May 20th means nothing. Signing scholarship papers and showing up on campus...that would be a big deal.

This. He doesn't have to sign an LOI. Several other top 2015 players didn't sign one either. Gives them options in case something happens, i.e. a coach leaves or gets canned.

We have been duped...LOI is probably sitting on a stack of LOIs on Izzo's desk.

The thing to understand here is that Dakich is NEVER wrong. Just ask him, he will tell you.

Dakich responded to a tweet today asking about if Purdue's chances go down the longer it takes. He said it's a lock.

He isn't signing an loi regardless of where he goes.

Dakich favorited my tweet:

"As much of a tool Dakich is, I don't think he'd put out that info unless he was 100% sure. Swanigan will be a Boiler"

Exactly what have I ever been wrong about when it comes to Imdiana hoops..tell me..said Zeller going to IU ..Cline deserved to be a McD AA..Ferrell back to IU..tell me where the "tool" "blowhard" et al comes from..please..always treated Purdue very well

So why did it bother you so much that a Purdue alum was named the IU women's coach? You were genuinely pissed off about that.

If you've ever listened to his show, he often treats Purdue pretty crappy. That's why I quit listening to him long ago. That being said, I do think he has some inside information or he wouldn't put that out there. If he's wrong about this, he's going to look pretty foolish. I do agree with others though, if this drags out much more than the weekend, I think our chances go down. I do know it's Homesteads prom tonight though, so maybe he will spill something about it soon.

Not too concerned yet. What happens, happens. Did see that Homestead's Prom was last night. Probably more important to the kid to enjoy his last HS time than to come to W L. yesterday.

Yeah and its not like he hasn't been there before anyway.

Are you Dakich?

Anyway, the "tool" comment largely comes from this fuss you made with @HammerandRails. I understand the misquoted you, and journalistic integrity dictates that you quote accurately. That being said, what is the difference in meaning between saying "done" and "done deal"? I don't understand how they quoted you in the title changed the meaning of what you were saying. And if it didn't, why make a huge deal about it?

Just cuz that blog site acted as fools doesn't mean I have to accept it and I won't..u make excuses for clowns I don't and won't ..hate away but if ya can't quote accurately a 5 word tweet then u shouldn't have a job or at least be made accountable..I didn't like "deal" because it implies Matt is into something shady which he isn't.. Too much respect for Matt and too little for wanna be's

maybe faulty on part of a 'reporter' for adding a word, but hardly think it was meant to imply anything more, especially being a purdue site - a pretty pro purdue site whether some like or dislike the writing.
if it were an msu blogger, then i could see that being implied.
if anything, H&R probably just received the extra hits and income from it all
