The Annual Peak

No Painter’s system doesn’t work. We can beat crappy teams but will never be good under pressure. The game as morphed to NBA. Style if you can’t recruit athletes that can shoot you will not beat good teams when it counts.

Look at the talent. Imagine have Brandon Miller at the 3 shooting.

We will win the regular season in the Big 10...but kind of backing into title.

Purdue still needs to win one of the last two games - not a certainty, especially if they play like that second half. But to your point - Boilers are stumbling in right now, unfortunately.

Thankfully, I took advantage of that Boilerepherine rider premium special for my life insurance policy.

Regular season is meaningless now with the unbalanced schedule. We feasted on the bottom of the league. Scheduling luck. The BTT will tell the tale. 1 seed is gone.
great post, did play alot o the bottom teams, would point it out but then you get slammed for can't you enjoy anything positive.

The schedule was certainly back-loaded and yes favorable overall.....it evens out over the years.....plenty of seasons, Purdue has had the short end of the stick.

Didn't play @ Iowa, Illinois, or Rutgers.

I wouldn't give up on the team or Painter no matter how the season finishes.....let's see how they handle the adversity, but I do understand the frustration after starting 22-1.......2-4 in the last six with two losses to Indiana. The finish @ NW was costly, too.

We shall see - it has definitely been a season worthy of a ride on The Beast and not for the faint of heart.

Why does Loyer play 35 minutes when he not playing well again and Jenkins only 9. Newman only played 19 minutes and I thought he played well. Come on Matt you can’t live with a skinny freshman who is getting knocked around , cut his minutes down to 20-25 so he can be fresh

I told my son at the beginning of the season it was going to be a roller coaster, because of the youth in the backcourt. Told him to just be happy if we can get to 20 wins and into the tournament. Then the unlikely happened and I told him it was coming, they weren’t going to let Purdue run away and hide in the league and like clockwork, here we are.

Yes, and we got catapulted too high in the polls for beating Duke and Gonzaga, and then we were able to stay up there by stacking wins against the bottom half of the conference.

But you get in the dance, maybe get some shooters going, and you never know…

We were picked sixth in the conference you trolling asshat. Your mom peaked well before she shat you out.
Ah, name calling. I’ve triggered you.

Not trolling. Why do we continue to backtrack to the preseason ranking, and if that’s any sort of real/quality insight? As if we should let that dictate our expectations. That’s a loser mentality.

The truth is, yes, this team has been a pleasant surprise. The truth is also that it appears to have peaked again, just like last season. Disappointing.

The style of “throw it into the big man” just doesn’t work in March when it’s your primary/only option. Need better, more dynamic guards, and Purdue doesn’t have ‘em.

Last year we had enough talent. Problem was Ivey was the alpha dog and Williams couldn’t see that. Trevion should have been a role player but wouldn’t

Talking about talented guards who could lead us to a final 4 - almost did minus a missed free throw and bizarre play. Jaden could have if we opened up the lane and let him drive like when Haarms was here. And everyone realize he could carry us to a FF

“shooting” may have been a poor choice of words. When all is said and done no matter the record I will take the reputation and class of Paint’s program vs Oats/Alabama.
Or it may have been chosen to make a point.

Duke is starting to come around a bit. Some good moments of play for them as much as it hurts to admit that.

IMO a LOT of what you’re seeing is a significant change in the level of Purdue’s opponents.

It’s NOT that Purdue cannot beat very good teams (they have), but the margin for error is far less and the pressure on those freshman guards is very different against a consistent diet of good teams.

Here’s the evidence: The B1G has a clear “bottom four” teams; Minnesota, Nebraska, OSU, and Penn State. Purdue played five of their first seven conference games against those four, and won them all.

Since then, Purdue has played three more games against that bottom four and won them all, but against the top ten of the conference they are now five and five. Not bad—not great.

It’s not always who you are—it also matters who your opponent is.

The aggravating thing is we are getting the same looks from 3regardless of the opponent. Make those at just a decent clip we're talking natty.

Unfortunately, there are 2 consistenies with this team 1) edey going 20+ and 10+ 2) our outside shooting woes
Some of that is due to the type of offense Purdue runs.

When your shooters are not actively involved in the offense, or when their chances from 3 are sporadic, it can be difficult for shooters to find a rhythm.

Sometimes, there’s not enough flow when it’s just “feed the post,” and that impacts shooters more than anything.

Some of that is that Smith and Loyer are expending a ton of energy chasing around opposition guards that are taller and/or physically more developed. Over the course of a game that wears a player down and open looks are less consistently made.

Yeah, I might need an iv drip of boilerepherine on 24-hour cycle until mid-march.

I try not to get too excited about Purdue sports anymore, but I'll admit that 21-1 start sucked me in. There's no going back now. I'm committed.

So you think it's purely a coincidence that this team and last year's team are shaping up in an eerily similar way?
Different ways of getting there. I don’t think this team walks on the court with arrogance. This team plays defense. The backcourt is freshmen. Unfortunately, they are hitting a wall. Maybe we will see more minutes from Jenkins and Newman during the BTT
