I have never, ever felt any compassion for Texas but last night I have to say I felt a little sorry for them. They owned Iowa State and bungled their way to a loss. I would imagine, without going to their site, that their fans are calling out even the janitor.

This morning I don't feel sorry for them anymore.

It's Purdue thinking time now.

I have a hard time caring about them as well, and I haven't followed them at all this year, but isn't that representative of their whole season? I thought they were having some problems down there and a major implosion?

Doing business in parts of Texas, some of the folks I know are calling for Barnes' head. They want a new and exciting coach. Sound familiar?

Last night's meltdown was typical of Texas basketball, which does not get very good support at all despite having many talented players come through the last decade or so like TJ Ford, Aldridge, Durant, Augustine, etc.

Barnes' situation is starting to become, dare I say, Wayne Fontes-like. Just when he looks to be dead-man walking, the team overachieves until the next meltdown the following season.

If Texas somehow misses the field (and I think it's 50/50), you might see a settlement. However, UT probably overpaid to get Charlie Strong and is still paying Mack Brown....you add Barnes to that payroll.....and probably the new AD Steve Patterson is going to get even more heat. There's also a lot of politics going on with the UT Administration, which has trickled down to the athletic department.

Bottom line......even with a ton of cash and resources, people can mess things up.....big time.

Texas....how long do you think Strong will last in Austin?

That ridiculous Longhorn Network is kind of killing them as well, IMO. Without the advent of that, Texas could have been swept from the Big 12 to the B1G. Adding Texas to the Big Ten instead of Rutgers would have been a massive boost to the conference and would have established a huge recruiting boost in to the south for other Big Ten schools. That is probably the biggest swing and miss for conference alignment for the Big Ten (much bigger than ND).

Texas is one of the last teams I would feel sorry for. Year after year after year after year, Barnes reels in Mickey D's All-Americans and still can't find a way to consistently win. It's a joke. Plenty of programs with much better coaches (cough, cough Purdue) would kill to have the influx of talent Texas consistently gets.

Texas, Florida, Ohio State = three programs who benefit massively from its football success/overall athletics profile

Agree, Johnny, and ESPN probably isn't happy about it either.

I realize this is OT.....Twin, I think Strong will most likely get at least the remainder of his stated contract term (four more years), but I wouldn't be totally shocked if he only gets two or three more if things really go downhill. They have glaring problems at QB.

He seems like a good man who won't compromise certain core principles and is really trying to change some of the discipline problems.....kicked off several players last year.

But the expectations with the fanbase, alumni, and donors are unbelievably unrealistic IMO.
