We really get a ton of bang for our buck. Illinois at 150% of our budget. Half of Gonzaga. 1/3 of UCONN and Duke.

None of the above schools are football powers and we should get as much or more TV money than any of them. Wonder why our budget would be a fraction of most others.

Any idea where this number comes from and what it includes? It can't be just coaches salary that makes the difference, so what is it? I honestly have no idea what our "basketball budget" includes. Very curious now too.

I'm sure basketball is the big money maker at the Big East schools (probably including UConn) and Gonzaga. Not sure why Purdue would be so far behind programs such as Illinois and Iowa State.

It makes the job Painter and his assistants do look even more remarkable.

First Painter is grossly underpaid. The new coach from Michigan will make more. Would like to see where Painter ranks, my guess middle of the pack for the best program in the Big. Second we sell our every game and get enormous TV monies, why is our budget so low ?

Includes recruiting, which is a big part for some schools. For Purdue, it's better than it was a few years ago, but not close to the top schools. It would be fun if someone in the know could plot or tabulate Purdue's recruiting class ranking with recruiting budget.

These are the only coaches active with a National Title. Crazy, right? It's really hard to win a title, but Purdue has been good enough for long enough under both Keady and Painter that we need to up that budget in a big, big way. Wow. Shocked by this.

Bill Self (2)
Rick Pitino (2)
Scott Drew (1)
Tony Bennett (1)
John Calipari (1)
Dan Hurley (1)
Tom Izzo (1)

To that line of thinking, Mark Few at $2.6 Million needs a better agent. lolol Wow!!!! They have been to two championship games!

If those numbers are correct, then Indiana paid Woodson $221,052.63 per victory this year. Purdue is currently paying Painter $118,709.68 per win--but that figure could come down over the next two weekends.

Just like most any other jobs, if you get hired on at a young age, and stay at that employer for 19 years, you will watch others get hired in at salaries above yours. I hope Matt can at minimum get to the F4 this year, so that he might get a better increase. If not, the next move is to listen to offers and then ask Purdue to match. I mean, how is Williard at $4M?

I would think that it’s time for Painter to get another raise. Make a Final Four and I bet he moves to the top ten. Win a national title and I’d argue for fourth between Izzo and Pearl.
