Yep. Qaz is likely right. His Expat status is likely his way out of serving.Did you come to a conclusion from this?
Had the same thought!Interesting point since everyone is required to do military service. I wonder if it is within a specific age range that your commitment must be completed.
Interesting to think how many here might have grown up in the Vietnam War Era, and think in terms of getting out of serving. People in the Israeli culture openly accept that it is their duty to serve to defend their homeland. And they don't fight in foreign wars. He is probably thinking that he has 10 years in which to enlist, so his plans for basketball can proceed for now.Yep. Qaz is likely right. His Expat status is likely his way out of serving.
Right, makes sense, so the sooner he can get over here the better. This looks like the key:

Agree that the culture there is much more akin to the US view in WWII vs the Vietnam era. As you said, I doubt Omer is trying to 'get out' of anything, likely views it as a business decision to defer his service. He can likely help his country much more by signing an NBA contract in two years versus being another 18 year old in the service today.Interesting to think how many here might have grown up in the Vietnam War Era, and think in terms of getting out of serving. Nice shots coming off that screen. Again, West looks real comfortable out there.
We're not in the same group, so it would have to be in the bracket phase. Israel's group includes Jordan, Switzerland, and the Dominican Republic. Not knowing much about international hoops, I would think Israel should come out of that.I know it was discussed that Mayer won’t be doing U19 but saw recently that Israel will actually make the trip. Sounds like we won’t have him or Jacobsen until after the tourney concludes.
Curious if we would face off against Israel?
Looks like Israel left Friday and just made it out before everything happened. We're not in the same group, so it would have to be in the bracket phase. USA is with Cameroon, France, and Australia. Sounds a lot tougher.
Good. Hopefully for Omer's sake, he has a flight from Zurich to the USA the day after the tournament.Looks like Israel left Friday and just made it out before everything happened.
