Things are lining up for us to possibly have a shot at Sumlin next year. A&M fans seem to want him gone and he has lost both his quarterbacks. Will be hard for him to win next year without any quarterbacks and they won't tolerate a losing record down there.

Man I would love to have Sumlin as much as the next Boiler fan. But the way Hazel is recruiting and with the current talent, it will be hard for any coach to come to Purdue and be immediately successful on the field. I think Sulmin would be the right hire but we will have to have patients with him to build up the talent pool.

With the way things are going for Sumlin, what makes you think he could succeed at Purdue????

From what I'm reading and hearing down here in Texas it has more to do with their OC and QB coaches then it does with Sumlin...trying to run two different systems with two distinct 5 Star QB's styles...other than the 5 Star part it does sound familiar doesn't it? As they say if you have QB's you really have none!

Fred Akers 86-32 at UT
Sumlin 37-16 at TAMU
A lot of similarities BUT some glaring differences 1) played collegiate in the North/Purdue 2) known as an Offensive Coach through passing not running 3) wins his rival games 4) wins his Bowl games 5) one heck of a recruiter and closes the deal on instate players 6) a lot of Northern Coaching experience 7) knows Purdue and has personal ties to the great Boilermakers! I would take him in a heartbeat if A&M lets him go after next season but I would not overpay to get him!

Who is the AD who would hire him? Morgan would never hire another coach he can't run like Pinocchio and Kevin Sumlin would not work for Morgan Burke. Morgan Burke has 2 more years. He and DH are "Thelma and Louise" at this point going off the cliff together.

Neither will survive next season if Purdue wins only 1 or 2 games and finishes at the bottom of the B1G again in 2016!

I agree Hazell is gone if that happens. But Burke is not getting fired. But he is retiring in '17.

I am just guessing that if we fire Hazell and we will know way before the end of the FB season they will hire a new AD first and send Burke to the JPC Club for his last year to raise money as he earns his last years' salary! JMO

If they are going to replace Burke before hiring a new football coach, the successor AD will need to be in place by the end of next summer. I have a bad feeling Burke will hold on to the bitter end.

I like that idea, but can you see what I am saying? Tiller was Morgan's first football hire as he inherited Colletto. Tiller came in and toed the company line for a year, then had success and did things his way which rankled Burke. The two since JT? Easy to manipulate. Now Hope got fired and probably threatened to kill MB so he went east to manipulate AND spineless.

That could be plausible. I suspect MB would defer the hiring responsibilities to someone else either way if he was about to retire.

When we tank next year, I can see exactly what you said happening.
The guy has his way with Burk.I met him at a JPC club outing last year in mid summer and he looked like pimp in his 3-piece suit while every one else was wearing shorts and golf shirts. He had little to say compared to coach Painter etc. Burk his boy!!

I literally can't believe I am reading this on a Purdue board of all places. If he is available and interested I will personally drive him from College Station to West Lafayette. If he is fired it is all about elevated expectation at A&M, not about Sumlin suddenly forgetting how to coach. This is the same guy most here were lamenting how we let our once-in-a-generation guy slip through our fingers! All I can say is I really truly admire the optimism of anyone who thinks we can get a better head coach given the current state of the program.

Here are the records of the last 3 head coaches at A&M:
Franchione: 32-28 (2003-2007)
Sherman: 25-25 (2008-2011)
Sumlin: 36-15 (2012-2015)

So this board is slamming our coaching staff because our 3rd string QB wants to be a graduate transfer but you're OK with Sumlin, who has lost two 5 star QBs in a week?

There's something bad going on in College Station. Maybe the HC has nothing to do with it. We'll see.

From what i have read, the OC is a big issue. Sumlin hired the dude, so he should catch heat, but i dont think he is the problem.

I have said nothing on the Appleby situation. But, yes, I will give Sumlin a huuuge benefit of the doubt over Hazell, considering their relative career accomplishments.

I really wish this board existed when we hired Akers. People would've been going crazy.
I'd take him in a heartbeat, it would give us instant cred and excitement. Yeah he'd have to use DH recruits but he'd give us an identity in no time. Our recruiting would pick up in a hurry, not saying a slew of 4's but it would be better than what's going on now ( dualing Troy St. and Army in recruiting rankings). As far as the Akers comparisons, I'll throw out the Harbaugh comparisons. It would be a coming home party and we would benefit from it.

Sumlin would be an idiot to come to Purdue with Burke still being the AD. Fire Burke then there might be a chance.

Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp sharply disputed a Horns Digest report claiming he was looking into firing Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin.

Sharp on Friday night described the report as a “fairy tale” and “completely false” and perhaps “out of the imagination” of the reporter, and suggested maybe someone, or a couple of people, were even misleading the reporter just to mess with him.

Sumlin would be a game changer for us, whether it is an option this year or next. Typically where there is smoke, there is someone planning a fire down the road. Just to add to the fun, what if Ryan Grigson is let go from the Colts and is brought in as an AD in waiting, letting MB transition to retirement while Grigs learns the college ropes. Put those two together and we have Purdue guys heading up a Purdue program that would instantly rise to a totally different level.

He signed a 6 year $30 million guaranteed contract in 2014 that runs thru the 2019 season.
Sumlin would be paid all of the money remaining on his contract if he is fired without cause at any point during the 6 years. If he would be let go next year, he would still have 3 years left on his contract and would get $15 million. A & M isn't going to pay that kind of money. Even if he got another job paying
$2.5 to $3 million, they would still be on the hook for $6 to $7.5 million.

This isn't Purdue. 15 million to a school that expects to win isn't alot. LSU had planned to fire Les Miles and he had a 17 million dollar buyout.

These were comments from one sports blog...AND the AD disagrees... AND at 51, Sumlin isn't going to ruin his career by coming to Purdue...AND if Sumlin was let go, he'll have A LOT better coaching opportunities then Purdue.

The comments are from Chip Brown, a guy with 10 years working for the AP, 10 years working for Dallas's biggest newspaper, and now currently works covering Texas. I wouldn't call what he does a "blog". He's more in the know than most people. And you can say he won't come here, but to dispute he's close to being fired is another thing. Of course the AD is going to say he won't be fired when his job is on the line also.

Sounds like the kiss of death when one gets the public vote of confidence...fact is if A&M turns it around with their next 5 Star recruit QB he will not be fired BUT if they don't I'm betting they will buy him out or fire him, jmo!

Of course he will, duh.

But he did play and coach at Purdue, and he is from Indy, so i bet he would at least listen to an offer, though probably not if it comes from the Non Revenue Sports King.
