I've followed this board for a while now but have never posted. Is it me or is it a no brainer that Vince Edwards should be starting at the 4, Swanigan at the 5 and Haas on the bench. This is the lineup Painter goes to in crunch time, so why not start this way. The slow start tonight was killer and Painter played Haas way too long to start the 2nd half.

Agree:Swanigan at the 5...Vince at the 4...Smotherman at the 3...Carsen at the 2...and Mathias at the 1. The best defensive team that we can play...and pray we can shoot from the outside.

This is the type of game where it seems like Smotherman could have helped against Minnesota's athletes, especially given how poor Haas was playing. This is the second game in a row where he's only received mop up duty, so he's either in the dog-house again or something else is going on.

smotherman is not good at D lol.. Idk what games you guys watch... hes overweight below the waist and does this thing where he rides his body into people as they drive by and almost always gets called for a foul

anyways... Haas CERTAINLY should be coming off the bench... but, just like we wont play zone defense vs bad shooting teams like minnesota, painter won't do the easy smart thing that makes sense.

Painter is nothing but an average coach and its painfully obvious at this point. The obvious things that can be done to fix issues we have, he refuses to do. Frankly, I am sick of it

You mean, recruiting the biggest lineup in the NCAA isn't a sure fire way to success!?!?

Until Haas starts playing better. Bench seemed to spark Vince. Maybe it can do the same for Haas.

Apparently landing "the best shooter in the country" in three successive classes is not the answer either.

I have no inside info. (strictly an educated guess), but from the looks of things, it seems like Smotherman has probably already hinted to Painter that he will be transferring (grad transfer) at the end of the school year, hence he's now beginning to get the Bryson Scott/Kendall Stephens treatment. It would not surprise me if Smotherman transferred and joined Stephens at Nevada: those two always seemed like a clique to me from watching them interact during games the previous three seasons.

I agree it has to be seriously considered given our slow starts. Still may be matchup dependent but Painter isn't one to juggle starting lineups from game to game. Not many college coaches are.

I would have PJ at the 1, CE at the 2, and DM at the 3. I don't think CE has the length to play 3.
That's the lineup I'd have. Carsen is best when the other guys who can score are on the floor and doesn't seem like he feels the need to take every shot. However, when you put him out there with Haas and Cline and Smotherman and Spike, and Haas turns the ball over each time it's passed to him, I can see why he feels like he needs to start jacking up shots or driving into 3 guys.

I think it should be depending on the team we play as I've stated in another thread.
Biggie, VE, DM, CE and PJ starting against quicker and smaller teams like Nova & Louisville.
Against bigger teams it should be Haas, Biggie, VE/DM (whoever is playing better), CE and PJ starting.

Seemed to start just fine v. Iowa. Folks slow starts happen, it is part of playing basketball games. Happens to every team, every year, multiple times a year.

Haas had the worst game of his career. Vincent started the season with the worst 4 or 5 games of his career. He still is not playing all that well -- not like a player who flirted with the draft last year. Both of them should be dominating opponents, especially when teams must focus on Swanigan.

KS will be gone by the time he gets there.

How's that? KS is sitting out this year and will play next year. Basisil say out last year. He is a senior with junior elegibility. Assuming he graduates this year he could transfer somewhere and play right away. Just like Chooch did...
