The Salinas brothers bought the ABA team Carolina Cougars for 1 million dollars moved them to,St Louis and then the NBA took 4 ABA teams for the NBA.
Then there were 2 ABA teams,left. The Kentucky Colonels and the St Louis Spirits. The NBA paid the Colonels 3 million to fold. The Spirits and the Salinas fought and the NBA made a deal by giving them a little piece of the NBA TV rights.
For the next 40 years or so, they just collected a check....no BS....just checks for the rights...to a tune of close to 800 million.
