• Painter said AJ Hammons just got frustrated at Michigan State because he was getting foul calls and let it affect him. The flagrant not only gave MSU some points but also kind of took Hammons out of the game. It was his second foul.
• Painter lauded E'Twaun Moore's professionalism when asked about his game last night, talking about how difficult it is to stay ready when you don't know whether you're going to play or not.
• He said the downside of the double-bye is working so hard to get it, then having to play a really good team right away, but he said it's obviously preferable because it makes the path to winning the event easier.
• On playing the centers together, Purdue has continued to work on that so that wasn't just a whim. It was possible, Painter said, because Hammons has been playing well. He said it will continue to be considered.
• On Illinois: In the first game, 'Leron Black and Nnanna Egwu showed us what playing hard looks like.'
Painter said the magnitude of the game is significant for Purdue, but it is for Illinois, too, so if Purdue brings its best effort, it can expect it to be 'matched.'
• On missing one-and-ones: 'It's not LIKE a turnover, it is a turnover.'
'It takes the wind out of your sails a little bit,' he said
Said it has really hurt Purdue to miss them back-to-back and said people have gotten on him for not calling timeouts during opponents' runs, but his thing is that Purdue has done good things during those runs and at Ohio State just missed free throws.
• Painter on the key to not being 'stagnant' on offense: 'Move. You hear me yell it a hundred times a game.'
