So you wish your were Kansas...

To each his own of course. I wouldn't call you names (odd duck) but I do find it curious that you still didn't say what you would call it if not entertainment. Honestly after reading your description I might say it sounds like a job that you don't get paid for. Especially the part where you say you leave the arena and never thought that was fun. Might as well go to the dentist!;)

Anyway, carry on and hopefully you will have some fun watching the rest of the tournament. I find that I really watch the games more when PU is not involved. When PU is playing I'm too wound up!!

fully understand. I have never been one in search of fun, but that is not to be confused that I couldn't have fun where I am. I don't believe the goal is to have fun although it is apparent that it is a goal for many. I enjoy depth and matters of substance in conversation much more than lighter subjects. Perhaps I'm too serious with life although I do enjoy quite a few laughs in life. I've had my share of serious issues. :) I probably spend too much time being colored by the "dash" and what memories I leave behind than many. Perhaps I don't spend enough time in the present? Anyway, I have no problem seeing my dentist. He flunked engineering and became a dentist and we get to talk a little bball and football. He was in high school with Curtis Painter at Vincenes. It's all good...I want for nothing...

Yep, much more important things. How about "be thankful for what you have and live with all the love a good family provides" AND watch your team win?

takes me back a bit (nothing to be read here...just that various songs pop into my head when certain words are said or typed...its like my own google for music :)

We are still talking about watching college basketball right?? For a second there I thought maybe we had switched subjects..... I'm not looking for the meaning of life here, I hope you aren't either!!

Every coach does that. Doing the parts of a job that are a given don't separate you from anyone else. Acting like Painter did something nobody else could do is a false narrative. Every coach that wins at a high level, does that on a regular basis. That bar is low.

Do you really believe every coach cares about what kind of men their players become? Really??? I guess I have seen too many coaches who have no problem that their players are caught in the middle of the night with guns with filed off serial numbers or players who have charges for assaulting young women waiting for them when their basketball season ends...

Obviously I didn't do a good job. I'll probably watch the games..but maybe not?

Here's a quote from the article on Bill Self at Kansas:

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Self is one of four head coaches with at least eight No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament, but only one of his eight No. 1 teams has reached the Final Four.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. That's seven gut punches (losses to lower seeds) that Bill Self has had to take.

Kansas is often listed as one of the 4 or 5 "blue blood" schools that we would set as a goal for Purdue. I personally wish Purdue were in that category.

But when I read that stat above, it became clear to me that the pain suffered by a true Kansas fan has probably been more intense than what has been suffered by a true Purdue fan over the past 20 years.

Now, that Kansas fan has also had more moments of glory, including one national championship. So I'm not saying that the administration at Purdue should settle for mediocrity. But I am saying this:

Many people seem to think that if we just had a better coach, or better recruits, then we wouldn't have to deal with these painful losses that we suffer. Well, if you think that rooting for a blue blood school will allow you to avoid the terrible frustration of losing, then you're mistaken.
You play to win. Your pre-season goals are to protect home court. To win your conference. To make post-season play. To win a National Title if one is the prize at the end. Every year, all schools fail the last except one and if a NC is the ultimate goal, then all but one fail.

I think you really make a good point. I think it is obvious that some coaches do not appear to care. But I know that some do and take very seriously. Gene Keady is my best reference. But I think you are saying that ONE is "too many" and I strongly agree with that.

Oh for pete's sake, could you be any more exaggerated? You act like that's the norm. It's the exception. Even here:

You get real emotion and and desire of teamwork for success. Please, stop with the over dramatization for a plea to emotion.
