And exactly what did that do for us? We need scorers not shooters. Dakota became a scorer and evolved his game. Once again, he doesn't rebound very good, he isn't a strong guard who can dribble/drive and he struggles with defense.
Being a good shooter doesn't necessarily help this team become better. Exactly, why we have 3 guys sitting out on the corners looking for Smith and TKR to create an opening. I want players who can create off the dribble/drive. Do you not notice these long scoring droughts?
Well, emotions work both ways. You are emotionally attached to players.
I'm glad coaches don't view it the same way you do or they would constantly be looking for new jobs.
Btw, there are more level headed fans on the board that feel the same
I get that Fletch has physical limitations, but I'm not sold on letting him go. He led the league in 3-point shooting against B1G teams. That's not nothing.
Say he does enter the portal and gets a better NIL offer. True, letting him go would free up NIL money for Purdue to work the portal. But, you're also losing a 3-year starter and 1000 point scorer from a team that doesn't have many proven scorers. And there's no guarantee the new guy is going to be better. Or, Purdue's NIL has to pony up more money to keep him, money that could have helped attract more help.
Harris played well in last night's defeat. I can see him and Cox becoming very good players for PU.
I get the concerns and it could backfire. I just feel he's pretty close to the same player we recruited and hasn't changed much in his game to get better. Plus, I see Harris could fill his void if he left.
Shooting is always a plus, but right now we need scorers and that's limiting our success. We just don't have enough of them to go out and get us points.

I'll ask it again.... how many more games were losses this year if Loyer wasn't on the court? Give us a guess. 5? 8?
Couldn't tell you the answer. How many games could we have won if we had a player that could dribble/drive, rebound at a higher clip, play better defense. There were many games where we were killed by the 1-3 position. His +/- would be the telling point.
We lacked rebounding from the guard position, true? We lacked a true dribble/drive 3 guard, true? We lacked a lock down defensive stopper at the 3 guard, true?
What if we had a player like Claude and/or Tonje. What would this team look like with Smith and TKR or personally let Harris take that spot over.

I actually thought he showed some speed we didn't know he had last night. Excellent FT shooter that is a great value with his ball handling late in a game...and he has shot the 3 ball well.
Were you watching him at all tonight? A low ceiling? What?
Obviously I don't think he should be let go.
But I do think the he's starting no matter what role hasn't necessarily helped him have a sense of urgency to improve his liabilities.
Yes, he's a great shooter. He still needs to play way better defense. He still needs to not disappear on offense for long stretches in games. He needs to stop those drives to the basket that end up with him flailing to draw a foul. He needs to stop with the flopping.
But given he's one of only two consistent outside shooters on the team, you need him to
be successful next season. But he needs to do more than shoot.
How many games do we win if he dedicated himself to better defense? To more consistent play on offense? 3? 5?
It would definitely help to get a consistent multi-dimensional guy who can defend out there with him. Myles Colvin looks like the closest to that right now. CJ Cox and Gicarri Harris both looked like freshmen this year. CJ has really struggled down the stretch, but hopefully he'll benefit from getting starting experience this early in his career.
I suspect Painter will look for an athletic 2 or 3 who can score. Purdue's had mixed luck with transfers, but Lance Jones worked out pretty well last year.
