But in all seriousness.. It's the nature of the beast with the portal and is hared to keep a whole team intact anymore. So if I had to GUESS... I'd say Berg.

Berg will probably leave but I doubt he’s the player Painter was referring to. And no it’s not Furst. Painter was referring to someone leaving via the portal. Sources said the player came to painter and informed him of his intentions.

I applauded you for your long struggle to overcome hurt feelings, yet you did not thank me.
Wonder if that player is getting minutes. I mean would painter keep giving that player minutes if he wasn’t playing.
I’m not trying to be negative but do we want him to stay?
He isn’t working out like we anticipated and keeping him around doesn’t make sense.
I see 3 spots - Furst, Berg, Waddell.
Several players aren't working out as we wanted them to. I think Berg has some promise...don't ask why, but I do. I think Waddell stays.
That scenario would leave us with 4 open. 3 leave, 2 open currently and West taking one.
He has promise because he wants to do it Painter's way. He's a tryer. He needs to get past the deer in the headlights look during game action.
Thank you! But you didn’t realize my feelings have never been hurt. I’m actually a member of the dare educational program and I’ve been using the replies made on this forum as prime examples of internet bullies!
I’ve had some classic examples of people bad mouthing others just because they didn’t believe their story.
People here bad mouthed Eastern’s mom since the day she arrived! And then bad mouthed her after she left.
Basically my posts are mirror images of what others post.
I never claimed to know anything. My only claim is that the people who argue with me and bad mouthing me don’t know anything more than I do. They just like to resort to name calling rather than civil discussion.
And pardon me for speculating about things most people think is impossible.
Actually I did say after he redshirted and still didn’t start that Newman would likely redshirt! And the replies to that speculation were hilarious and are still on this board. I was informed no way would Newman leave! Boom, I called it before anybody else here thought it was possible.
I’m calling it again. If a certain guard had thoughts of going into the nba after his second year, he’s not going to stick around. Another year and come of the bench. And if that’s his perception about next year, then he will transfer. And I sad the same thing last year and the year before!
I believe painter may be giving certain players some greater minutes in the hope that they may change their mind and decide to stay and not enter the portal. I don’t believe Painter wants players to leave. But he also wants to put the players on the court that he feels give the team the best chance of winning. And it’s an understanding painter will never give any player guaranteed minutes.
And if I’m a player with nba aspirations, I need to get at least 15-20 minutes a game to display my talent.
As I look at Purdue I also look at catchings. He had another dnp at byu in their tourney game. He may be injured. But byu is bringing in the #1 player in the nation at his position. I’m not sure if Catchings will turn pro. But I have to believe he will not be returning to byu next year.
I don’t have any insider information. I’m just reaching conclusions. Based on past history and looking to the future. And using logic.
Back to Purdue. West and Ertel are not coming to Purdue to sit on the bench. And Painter is still actively recruiting that other 2026 guard. To me that says a current guard has seen the writing on the wall. And will be leaving before West arrives!
In my speculation, I didn’t name a name, but I believe it is a guard. Maybe Harris, maybe Myles, maybe cox or maybe benter. But if both Loyer and smith return, there’s not going to be much playing time to go around for guys like Harris and Myles to display their talents. And there will be zero time for Benter to show his talents. And I don’t believe West will redshirt.
To me that means someone has already seen the writing on the wall much like Newman, Hunter and it did and have already notified painter who has kept their decision secret.
It also appears as if someone knows who the player is And asked painter the loaded question trying to trap him into revealing the name of the player who entered the portal. And that’s why painter answered the question the way he did.
