Unless we win the B10 tournament, we likely finish with 12 losses.

Who guessed that right?

Knew the talent was off past the top 3-4, but never thought 12 loses. Never thought we would lose to PSU, and then OSU & W @ home. Esp. with 2 All B10 guys.

Here's one guy hoping they make some late tournament runs & salvage this season. Maybe even hold losses to 11 by winning the B10 tournament. Go Boilers!!

Strange season, indeed. This goes to show the importance of getting old and staying old. Almost impossible to replace four seniors--one of which who was NPOTY--with 5 true freshmen.

Just not fair to the young guys to expect this much from them. As was mentioned elsewhere, this team is lopsided.

Yeah I think all season a lot of us have forgotten that we do not have Zach Edey anymore. Just how significant that is.

We assumed improvement that didn't happen

We won games early we really shouldn't have won. Lost some late that a "good" team doesn't lose. it balances out. We were never really a top 10 team. Top 20 was this years ceiling and we made that.
We "assume" improvement from every player, every year and sometimes that just doesn't happen.

Yea, after the Alabama win I thought we might hold losses to 7 -9. Guess things average out, and a team lacking talent past the top 3 can't hide for long. Still been a great year in a way, watching a generational player and his side kick do there thing. Fun to watch.

But those that postulated this team might not need additional help from the portal in the off season, which was said here by a few good posters.........now, at least surely know they are far off on that.

This team is capable of beating anyone.. but also losing to anyone. Yeah that is typical, but very apparent now.

As I've said many times my expectations for this team coming in to the season were low.. and add in we lost DJ and we suddenly had a gap to fill. Add in that Colvin and Cam were basically non-factors all season and basically 3 people have carried the entire team.

Now.. as disappointing as things have been, considering what has been lost (Zach, DJ, Catchings) I think we did pretty well and really will help us next season in what could get a special year.

As Mr Miyagi said... you must have balance!

The thing that surprises me the most is the defense. Way more losses than I expected this year.

I am most disappointed with defense played by our guards. We are allowing everybody to take uncontested shots and they are making them. And then after the game saying we didn’t play them tight because they were not attempting those shots before they played us. That is no excuse for not playing tough defense . Because of a lack of defense many guards had career nights against us

Yes Furst was bad. Yes tkr was short. But it was our guards that played only a prevent defense that huger us most.

And the total lack of offensive rebounds

I said 10 but it seems that was a low number for this team.
I have been thinking that this year might set the record for most teams in the dance with double digits losses. Everybody has a tough schedule and conferences just beat up on each other. Last week’s poll had several 8-9 loss teams in it. If they don’t win out, that’s several teams that will have the double digit losses. College basketball landscape is in that on any given day mode. Not like last year when that team from the B1G “stood above” everyone else. 🚂
Go Grizzlies.

I mean, who had us losing our 7'4" Freshman Center in game 2? I had us in big trouble with he went down. They likely finish the regular season in the Top 25, have been in the Top 10 at points in the year... we're going to the big dance. Again, perspective guys. If they're hitting 3's and if Heidi and Colvin step up in the tournament. Purdue can be a thing. Sweet 16? I'd be happy with it!

I said 22-9 (14-6) back in October. So, I guess I was counting on 10 or 11 losses depending on what Purdue could pull off in the B1G Tournament. So I can't be too upset with how the season's played out.

Yeah the loss of DJ I think is bigger than we think.. yeah he wasn't going to be another Zach .. but he sure was showing promise already and would have changed the entire dynamic of the team I think.

We'll see next season.

Smith had 9 rebounds last night and Loyer had 0. Don’t understand how you play that many minutes and not get one by accident.

I'm not surprised at TKR and Smith stepping up their games.

I'm not surprised that Loyer is the same.

Furst was Furst as well. No surprise there either.

I was surprised Colvin and Heide seemed to regress a bit with more playing time.

I was surprised at Cox showing flashes.

No surprise Berg and Burgess weren't ready (for different reasons). Burgess has talent but could have used a redshirt I think.

Ultimately the team is too thin in the frontcourt and not quick enough in the back to keep teams out of the lane BUT the offensive skill of the Big 3 will keep us in the game against almost anyone.

That post had a very Dr. Seuss ring to it. Although I like this rendition better...

I’m not surprised by TKR,
Or Smith, I say—those two will raise the bar!

And Loyer? Well, he’s just the same,
A steady, solid, known-good name.

Now Furst was Furst, as Furst should be,
No shock or twist to puzzle me!

But Colvin, Heide—oh dear, oh my!
With more time, they went awry.
I thought they’d shine, I thought they’d grow,
Instead, they seemed to sink—not flow!

And Cox! Now Cox! He made me stare!
Some flashes here, some flashes there!

But Berg and Burgess? Not quite yet,
For different reasons, I would bet.
And Burgess—yes!—he’s got some flair,
But one more year might get him there.

The frontcourt’s thin, the speed is slow,
The guards let drivers freely go!
Too many lanes, too little might,
Too many gaps—oh what a sight!

But oh, but oh! That Big Three crew!
They’ll keep us close, they’ll push us through!
Against most teams, they’ll find a way,
To fight, to score, to save the day!
