If a candidate for president, whose economic and foreign policy you agreed with, came out and said he believes blacks are inferior to whites or a little socialism is a good thing, you might vote for them anyway and just wait and see if they rescinded the civil rights act or started a government takeover of private businesses.
Not to mention the idea that, in any walk of life, it makes sense to ignore what people SAY or how they act and focus solely on their actions when judging or evaluating them. When meeting someone for the first time we all make judgments on what they say. Do you consider what people say in an interview or just hire them based on their resume?
