What the hell? I don't follow IU football too close, but I thought he was doing a good job down there.

Only thing I can come up with, promoting their DC, but really shocking. They could take a major step backwards. Two straight bowl games for them is unheard of and a major success.

Timing couldn't possibly be any better for us. Not that he was beloved in state, but he was at least established. Now our new coach should be on even ground with their new coach to start out. With this news and the turmoil in South Bend, you really couldn't ask for more help (short of sanctions).

And, it has to open up the potential for some instant recruiting opportunities as well, especially in the state...opportunities that did not exist with Hope and Hazell, and for some quality guys that had committed to IU already.

Unless IU gets your coach.....

Homer Hutchens is twittering that Wilson's firing is for an off the field issue.

Yep. I hope we are burning up some phones.
Also, does this put Mark Hagen in play or does he get promoted?

Maybe he gets bumped to D Coord, I'm betting the bump Tom Allen to Head.
I have to think they look outside...and, quite frankly, they should.

I can see that on an interim basis and for the bowl game, but, moving forward past that, hard to believe that at this point that the position is not at least somewhat attractive to someone...quite frankly again, I would deem it more attractive than Purdue in at least some ways.

Fred Glass is probably the best AD that IU has ever had. I trust him to make a replacement hire. Tom Allen might be a good choice. He is a very good coach and good recruiter in Indiana.

Tom Allen is solid. Much more stable than Wilson. I'd love to have an AHC/DC like Allen at PU.

Masters from IU, New Castle native, IN HS coach background...He's a no-brainer IMO, unless they really want to look outside.

I deserved that response.....meant possible future coach (PJ Fleck).

This could be a serious blow to IU Football just when things were looking up.

Crap!
Actually, Fleck would probably be a better fit at IU than Purdue. Its hard to imagine someone seeing that job as a place to build something...fanbase that generally doesn't care, historically poor on the field results, and a killer division.

The rumors from twitterverse hint it has to do with Wilson forcing players to play through injuries. Who knows at this point though.o_O

What I am reading online, it appears Wilson was dismissed for actions that risked the immediate and long term health of players. Seems that the sudden announcement of Diamont retiring due to concussions was the smoke that led to the fire. Seems a number of former and current players were interviewed by school administrators concerning Wilson's actions and treatment of players. With such a focus on the health and well-being of student athletes, not surprising that IU would relieve Wilson after the massive black eye they suffered with Bob Knight's numerous incidents.

If it is something like this, it is hard to believe Wilson will be the only one let go.

If it is found that Wilson was the one with the words coming out of his mouth to rush players back...IE: said in coaches meetings that players needed to be brought back, his assistants should only be held liable if they themselves were complicit.

My guess is that Wilson and a trainer/team doctor probably had words and the physician went to the admins with his concerns. As a team doctor/trainer, it is his responsibility to keep the boys healthy and not win games. Just a total shot in the dark on how these concerns may have come about.

THIS OMG THIS. cmon football search team...hit a home run!

You could not even more wrong and/or delusional. IU is the better job.

When IU was at their absolute peak and Purdue was at their absolute worst, IU beat Purdue by 2 points.... at IU. I wouldn't go hanging my hat on that perception because the difference is pretty negligible and any coach that believes he can succeed at one will believe he can succeed at the other.

I wouldn't doubt that a couple of coaches backed up the players stories and MAYBE even went to the administration first. That would certainly C their As from being released. Calling all coaches in from recruiting visits (which apparently happened) does indicate that the administration is going to be interviewing them to see if anyone else needs canned.
