Smotherman's energy was fantastic on Monday, but he will have to learn how to stay under control when the adrenaline is pumping. There was a critical sequence during the 2nd half where he missed a front-end of a 1&1 and threw the ball away a couple of times; he was simply too jacked-up to execute.

Understandable that you'd be emotionally charged playing your first game in over a year vs. the defending national champion, but we win that game if he has better control of his aggression. He'll improve over the course of the season, and we're going to love what he brings to this team.

He came out if his suspension with great attitude. Hopefully Cline does the same. He might want to consider that Eastern's arrival makes him more expendable next year if he doesn't have his head screwed on.

Cline would have been a game changer. We had multiple outside looks and and we either didn't take it or we missed.

We didn't even need the 3. I can think of at least 4 occasions on the break or someone flashing to the lane that the entry pass was airmailed 6 feet above the recipient's head. Land 1/2 of those in the players hands in stride and the game is over.

Good points but Haas missing late FT's was a bigger issue IMO. Make one of those and the game is much different down to the wire.

I think that is the reason you play good teams when you are able. You want your kids thinking about revenge and what they could do better next game. Then when they play a good team in the NCAAT, those emotions of revenge help them overachieve.

Yep....love the guys energy.....but in his first game back you could see how bad he wanted to execute and make things happen. He did to a point and it was fun seeing the spark he gave.....but the critical segment of the game described above cost Purdue badly. I don't see that happening again that badly. I just think that was all part of his first official game back.

Agree. He will settle down a bit and he will have an important role to play as we saw against Nova. Next time he and others turn those mistakes into big plays and the score flips.

Smotherman is exactly the type of reserve you want on your team. He brings energy and hustle to lift the teams play. There were other issues that cost Purdue the game. Obviously, you want everyone playing under control but it's much easier for a coach to reel a player in than to hype a player up. He'll be fine.
