Another example, I listened to the first half of their Washington game recap from the Sleepers guys (I'm a glutton for punishment) and it was a prime example of how they use sensational and simplistic takes. It's not necessarily wrong, but less than what I'd consider intellectually honest.
Their takes include that TKR is a bad defender, evidenced by Osobor going for 28 on 8 of 9 shooting, and that MP came in with a bad game plan and was thoroughly outcoached in the first half. Exactly what I'd expect uneducated fanboys to say. I couldn't stomach to listen to the second half of their recap but I'm sure they were just as simplistically complementary of Purdue's performance in the second half.
Good lord. “Had a bad game plan”. What are they on? We missed a ton of shots we usually hit and they hit some they don’t and they weee only up 8. Osobor was 4/17 from 3 and I’d still let him shoot wide open. There weee a couple times where he was wide open and we had a guy turn (cox) and start to run at him to cover the ball (what’s he supposed to do) and then realize, “ah scouting report says this guy is NOT a good shooter” and he basically ran away from him to allow him to shoot 😂
I’m sure Osobor will go 4/30 rest of season and paint will allow him to shoot it again if we run into them somehow.
What crazy is we shot so bad from 3 but still beat them and just dominated second half with out hitting 3s. It helps Washington is bad, but their floor also sucks.
Eh having a take that you don’t agree with isn’t the same as being sensational for viewers. I don’t agree with the take regarding osabor either, but that doesn’t mean it was sensational.
I actually agree with their take on having a bad game plan in the first half. We were clearly caught off guard with their crazy hard hedge and it killed our rhythm without a counter in the first half.
Haven’t watched Washington all year but do they normally hard hedge? If so, then sure I’ll agree.
But Also, we missed shots we hit and they hit shots they usually miss.
Great adjustments made in 2nd half tho.
NBA just doesn't want to take short players unless they are crazy athletic.
I think he'd have a second round shot although more likely he'd be a free agent pickup who's get his shot in the summer leagues.
If we were just talking skill (or if he were 6-3), then he'd be first round this year. Otherwise, I don't see it.
Before folks get upset, I'm in no way saying Smith couldn't possibly play in the NBA. I am saying NBA scouts and GMs are going to see 6 foot and not super athletic (for the NBA) as giant red flags that no amount of skill is likely to make them want to invest a first round pick in him.
Now, nothing prevents him from taking the summer league and forcing them to eat crow, but he can't control that bias that seems to be pretty evident in the NBA against shorter guards.

Going back a few weeks as the other board was talking about Sleepers, but their view on Osobor was either sensational or uninformed.
They went all in on Osobor putting up 28 showing that Trey is a defensive liability. Purdue holds Washington to 58 points using a gameplan that concedes threes to Osobor and he goes out of his mind and goes 5-5.
How hard is it to 1) understand that Purdue followed a defensive gameplan that was highly effective and 2) watch the 90-second cutup of Osobor's scoring and see that on almost all of his scoring either someone beside Trey is guarding him or Osobor gets a dish and scores when Trey has to leave him to play help defense?
There are some things I like about their coverage and I respect the hustle, but they don't do any in depth homework and follow the standard business model of using hot takes to generate clicks.

Lol 2-3 plays maybe with Trey guarding him. I’d say one where he actually was trying. We left Osobor open for a reason. And wouldn’t ya know it, he’s 0-6 in the two games after Purdue. Guarantee painter would run the same scheme again. It takes away from his rebounding skills too, since he’s further away from the basket.
I like the first 3 where Loyer and cox turned to run at the open shooter and saw it was him and both immediately ran to another man to box them out 😂
