Mainly through the air since it was reported their secondary may not be as strong as PSU?

I say come out throwing and then throw some more. Run as needed go support the pass.

Pass till you get hot, then pass some more is an old coach JT motto that coach JB embraces. We’ll see plenty of it, BUT pass to setup the run.
I’m sure coach JB will do his best. What makes me nervous is if we have a lead of less than 7 points & less than 6 minutes to go in the game. USE THE CLOCK COACH BROHM!!! Please use the clock!

Mockobee maybe. That was a shitty team last week.
3-3-5 is designed to stop spread offenses. Run it it down their throat
Plus their DL isn't all that strong. Not like PSU. I could see a lot of short slants and reverses in this game. Sheffield and Tracy should be able to move the ball.

Agreed

We may see a strong passing performance from Purdue and a decent running game this week.I think Dourue,Downing,Mockobee and Tracy may all get chances to show what they can do.Boiler up!
A good mix of our power and Vision Rbs 5-7 ypc behind our offensive line. Anything more after that it a party 🥳

P.S. Also don't forget about Kobe Lewis too. We be rollin deep in the NYC!

We actually looked like we could move the ball some on the ground against PSU. I think you establish the run and then run play action over the top. Let the OL prove they can produce a ground game.

I don't think its that we can't run the ball. We ran just fine. I just don't think Brohm trusts the run as a means of winning a game. Not sure why, but he doesn't.

PSU had 8 players in the box and the corners were in press coverage. They choked the running lanes.

Agreed, and we still ran the ball effectively enough, even in the red zone. We only attempted 20 runs in total. Over 4 yards per carry if you take away O'Connell's sacks...

I was referring to the last 2 drives. Most of the game they were stacked like that.

Doerue ran in one of the last two drives and the line collapsed and he was dropped in the backfield. Brohm gave up after that one.

Then you have to find other plays that essentially act like a run but you're not just trying to go off-tackle. All you need to do is keep the clock running and testing NFL caliber DBs in man coverage with a good pass rush coming is a low % success play. Brohm played right into PSUs plan and stopped the clock for them a bunch late in the 4th.

He did. Frankly, if youre ALL B1G QB could have thrown a better pass to Sheffield on the flag route, game over.

I agree, or if he didn't float that one to Durham, but that was a tough throw. Neither of those were high % passes though.

Or our TE is credited with a catch late in the game or AOC throws a better pass to begin with or our DBs actually wrap up on tackles and keep short gains from being 50+ yard run and catches for TDs……..

That wasnt a catch by Durham. AOC should have thrown that, that type of throw usually gets picked.

Yep, it was the under throw to Sheffield that really cost us. Was heck of a job by the DB to catch back up on that play, but make that throw and we end the game.

No, what really cost us were the missed tackles by our DBs. If any of those were made, we likely win by 7-10 points.

The play at the end of the half was totally inexcusable. 99 times out of 100 that doesn't happen against a defense in prevent mode at this level. Winning teams don't let things like that happen.

That fumble and subsequent 67 yard jaunt by their excellent TE was indeed a back breaker for us. We had a chance to tack on a FG to make it 14-13 PSU or even 17-14 Purdue at the half, instead they went up 21-10 at the half.

Especially if they are weighing in at 260 LBs. It’s like a successful screen pass on every play. How many LBs and DBs wanna face a 300 OL, and the good news is that the OL don’t have to run down field.

To me, this mentally starts to look like Missouri in 2017.
