Shephard leaving?

Washington is a better program
Marginally. Technically a demotion on paper as it doesn’t appear he will have Co-OC in his title, and even if he was offered more money I’d like to think Purdue would match. And Seattle cost of living is crazy stupid. There always talk about CJB being tough to work with but he’s followed him everywhere for the most part. Of course if I were <40 making $500k+ a year with young children (young enough before a big move is very difficult), I’d sure as heck like to live in Seattle over West Lafayette. Especially a new staff that you know will be there at least 3 years.

Marginally better? How many rose
Bowls do they have? How many do we have?

they also were in the playoff recently

They have one rose bowl since we played them in the 2000 rose bowl. They also played in the fiesta bowl, playoff was 2016 peach bowl, all under Peterson who abruptly resigned. Programs been in shambles since. Went to Las Vegas bowl after Peterson left, then 2020, then missed bowl this past year. Had some pretty good recruiting classes with Peterson but really dropped off and past two years a lot of talent transferring out.

3 conference titles since 2000. 17 total. 4 division titles since they split. 1 playoff appearance.

Peterson did great things there and got 3 of the division titles the fourth on a 4 game season. But other than Peterson are 53-91 since 2002 under several coaches. I agree they are a marginally better program than Purdue. But at best 4th best program in PAC behind USC, UCLA, and Oregon and that doesn’t say much.

He seemed to love it here but I don’t get this move. Why would you accept the same job at a program that’s currently trending downwards on the west coast?!? I’m sure there’s more to the story but maybe he knows he’ll never get to move up the ranks here at Purdue 🤷🏼‍♂️

They have one of the best offensive minds in college football coaching them now. Why wouldn't Shephard want the opportunity to work for 3 of the top offensive minds in his past 3 stops?

This is why when you have good coaches you pre-emptively pay them more and more and give out raises when they aren’t asking for one

and people will argue .. and all I will see is “what do you mean lights at Ross ade? What do you mean we should go all in on football at tillers peak?”

What if it had nothing to do without money and Shepherd was just looking for his next opportunity to help progress his career? It's a pretty logical next stop.

This. Too many people always default to money.

Not sure if, in his mind, it's a logical next step, but money isn't the driving factor for many people.

Sometimes they just need a change of scenery... or feel like they've hit a wall where they are... or any number of other reasons.

Darn, we’ll miss him. He coached at Washington State with Leach for a year before coming here. I saw this ranking. Interesting that Taylor Stubblefield is at PSU.

So who are the WR coach candidates?
Wouldn't it make sense that Stubblefield should be one of them, if not the primary one?

Purdue has really struggled unfortunately with any stability with respect to the staff, and, this one is a blow in the Shepard was REALLY good, and, one of the better recruiters on staff seemingly as well.

It made sense in the cases of Lutz and Shrewsberry, but, at the same time, they both left Purdue at a time where Purdue was poised to be as good as ever.

It is an interesting move and does raise some valid questions, but, ultimately, Shephard obviously felt that this was best for him...disappointing to see him leave, and, he will be missed, but, he did his job (and did it well) at Purdue...hopefully they can find someone to replace him that is as good...ideally, better.

So if it made sense for Lutz and Shrewsberry to leave because they were as good as they would get, couldn't you say the same for Shepherd? What more can he do at Purdue?

Lutz and Shrewsberry left for HC positions...not even remotely the same...neither guy was leaving Purdue for a lateral move.

Moving just from the B1G to the Pac-12 could raise some questions alone...never mind leaving for a program that is at best, 4th in a mediocre and nationally ignored conference.

Wow, dude.

This has all the appearances of someone obsessing over what's posted on the PURDUE forum.

It also has a different feel when a team has 9 wins vs 2.
Umm ok. It was the post about the mizzou qb committing to iu. If reading that post means I am obsessing then guilty as charged.

Sure. If he wants to be a WR coach his whole life. Dude wants to be an OC.

I can be too many people and we are still friends

I can see the move if it is more than lateral. Same title totally different territory, I’m puzzled by the move. If it were Taylor Stubblefield from Penn State (Yakima, WA), I could see that lateral move to home so to speak.
With that said, hope Purdue aims for Taylor Stubblefield. Just saying…

Shephard's wife was not at all happy living in Indiana. What is interesting is that he decamped for Washington when she has her heart set on living in Florida.
