Does this make Shake 3-2 vs Painter?
Ever since his VCU days, I've really liked the way his teams play with their relentless pressure D, guards who can penetrate and kick out, and transition offense.
I've always thought he'd be a great replacement at Purdue when Painter hangs it up.

He is from Wisconsin and may have been one reason he left Texas to Marquette, or was Texas about to run him out of town? I can't remember. He is building a good program there, NCAAs every year .. but ... he might get tired eventually fighting UCONN every year in the Big East. You never know in college coaching or coaching in general. Some like moving around.

I knew you couldn’t resist!! 😂 but yeah he had his guys hyped for that game…even after a hard fought battle with Maryland. It seemed we thought we could just show up and win.

Egads, you are slipping Lenny - I think he's actually 4-2 vs Painter (VCU, Texas (2), and Marquette).

1. Spend time elsewhere 1-2 stops for a broader education.

I always liked Shaka, but as far as a coach to ever replace Paint, my guy would be Greg McDermott, he runs a similar system and recruits similar type players that Paint does

Tv revenue. Purdue will have better facilities and I expect higher pay all around including for recruits. Also the head coach salary is endowed by the most generous cash gift in Purdue sports history.

They were getting ready to run him out. At Texas, the number of stars associated with a recruit's name matter and many of those wouldn't buy into Shaka's system. So going to Marquette was a smart move for Shaka as it made it easier for him to recruit his players for his system.

I think you're kidding, but just in case, I disagree 100%.
Marquette and Creighton are nowhere near the program Purdue is in terms of exposure, resources, facilities, basically in every single aspect, Purdue far exceeds both.

His program is very similar to UConn: strong, athletic guards, who attack the rim or penetrate and kick, havoc perimeter D, pressure the ball.
I think he'd do really well at Purdue.

I'm not a big fan of turning over the program to someone with zero HC experience at this level. Football has shown that can have disastrous results.
Additionally, I'd be in favor of bringing some new blood into the program.

I can understand that. But paint will still be around another 10-15 years 😂

Why would you want to bring in new blood. Painter has built a top notch culture at Purdue and I am sure the AD would like to continue that as long as possible.

Until last year, there was real question as to whether Painter was going to get us to the promised land. We were seeing very similar tourney results as we saw with his mentor Keady (very good regular season coach, but underachieve in the tourney).

I feel like that horse has been beaten to death. Painter had a historically bad 4 year tourney run until last year. Shaka, while not having an impressive tourney resume either, has the same number of FFs.

This is just dumb. Purdue under Painter has been to the S16 or better in 5 of the last 7 tourneys. There is only one other team that has had better consistency during that same period, Gonzaga. Add on top of that a Champ runner up and an elite 8 and you have a top 6-7 tourney performance in all of College bball.

Also that 4 year tourney run that you are talking about included a canceled tourney, and a S16. IF you didn't completely cherry pick your data to fit your narrative the book ends to that 4 year (with only 3 tourneys) was an E8 and a Finals appearance........

We know he doesn't have head coaching experience. Is he the one bringing in some of our bigger recruits? Can he get the university to open up the NIL purses?

2 things can be true at the same time: 1) Until last year, Painter's teams severely underachieved in the tourney and 2) Shaka and Painter have been to the same number of FF in their careers.
