Interesting - Is this Duke as overall #1 seed and choosing Atlanta over Newark? Assuming that because you started the bracket with them, and otherwise Auburn would likely take the South. No doubt it's the Duke invitational in Raleigh (rotating among Charlotte and Greensboro as well in many years).

Some chatter if Tennessee beats Florida, they might get that last #1 - personally, I would still give it to Florida.

Who is your "last team in?" Haha....no comment here, but I have some suspicions.

Also, Purdue could do a lot worse than that pod, although how it's looking now - I'll be indeed very pleasantly surprised if Purdue gets to the second week.

Yeah I moved Duke to #1 overall. Interesting call. The fact that they won the ACC Tournament (which is more important than the regular season for that conference) without Flagg while Auburn lost in the semis turned the tide for me. Plus they beat Auburn. Auburn's resume IS better.

Interesting when looking at Duke's season, the scores of their 3 losses are quite similar:

77-72 vs Kentucky
75-72 vs Kansas
77-71 at Clemson

Mich at a 4 seed. Purdue a 5.

If we get past that first round matchup you have here, Purdue vs Ethan Morton would be interesting and if we won that, a possible matchup with Gillis next 😂

Clemson would be super tough tho. They’re playing well. I think TKR gets their best big in foul trouble. They do have good guards tho.

I would still give Auburn the overall 1 seed tho. But I much rather would be in any bracket that’s NOT them. But tbh, if we were to play a 1, it’d mean S16, so that’d be a win in my book.

I would take that bracket. I really think we are a 5 not a 4.

I would prefer to not be with Houston. But that doesn't matter until SS. The way they play defense just makes me very concerned that we could run any of our offense against them.

My two dark horses are McNeese State and Liberty. Love the guards for Liberty, love the way they play as a team, and they have a great coach who should move on to a bigger school but probably loves where he is.

Georgia in as a 10, Utah State moves to an 11 (to play BYU), Oklahoma into the First 4, North Carolina out

Purdue now a 5 for sure, with Mich moving up. IU, Texas, Xavier, Boise St are last 4 vying for last 2 spots.
Of that group, Texas is the most interesting case, IMO.

Texas has by far the best Quad 1 record at 7-10 (Indiana is 4-13, Boise is 3-6, Xavier is an anemic 1-9). But Texas also has 5 losses outside of Quad 1--the most of that quartet (all 5 are in Quad 2). And then there's Texas's #349 non-conference SOS.

Indiana actually doesn't look too bad in that group. The Hoosiers have no losses outside Quad 1 and a non-conference SOS that is significantly better than Xavier and Texas.

Boise's biggest flaw is that they've played 17 games in the bottom 2 quadrants and lost two of them---including a Quad 4 loss.

Xavier's biggest flaws are it's 1-9 Quad 1 record and its #213 non-conference SOS.

If we assume that UNC is out, my call would be:
Texas --- 7 quality wins outweigh its flaws
Indiana --- underwhelming resume but fewer major flaws than Xavier and Boise.

BUT.... if we're going to decide things that way, then I'd bring UNC back into the discussion. UNC's Q1+Q2 record is slightly better than Indiana, and the Tar Heels' non-conference SOS is MUCH better than any of Texas/Indiana/Xavier/Boise.

(Or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to keep Indiana out.)

I could see Purdue as a 5 or 6. Rather than the Michigan game and those other losses, the game that sticks out the most to me is the USC game. Purdue was well rested. The game could have been considered a home game for Purdue. Purdue should have blown USC away, yet they almost lost. Purdue was definitely not one of the top 16 teams in that game. As I said, Purdue was well rested, it was basically a home game. And yet, we didn’t put usc away.

Purdue had a couple of early season wins. I highly doubt they could duplicate those wins today.

If you look at the resumes side-by-side, which I tried to copy and paste but it didn't work, Purdue holds the slight edge. Recency bias puts Michigan ahead, sure. But that's not how it works. The whole season counts the same. Like I said originally, my gut says 5, but the numbers say 4.

I understand that and agree w/ you, it's just the big wins were a long time ago

Very true, but it's not supposed to matter when they were. And really the reason they removed it was because schedules are so unbalanced. Look at the B1G conference season that has 2 games in December. You shouldn't be penalized by winning those games because they were so long ago. That's how the schedule lines up.

Spot on. Recency bias isn't really part of the seeding equation, but historical success and SOS is.

Although I don't see Purdue as a 4 either, they could slide in if it came down to the committee trying to balance out matchups and spread conference foes into different regions. Otherwise we are a solid 5.

I didn't have any conference issues at the 4/5. It's easier these days with unbalanced schedules because you can play a team that you've only played once as early as the 2nd round.

The issue I had was at the 6-seed, where I have Marquette and BYU. Marquette can't play in Milwaukee, and BYU has to avoid Sundays. Made it tricky.

Like Florida and their coach. Very good team, with real quality depth.
For sure. Florida looks like the toughest #1 seed at the moment. Duke is working through injury issues with Flagg, Auburn has been struggling lately, and Houston seems like a half step behind those other teams. Just a loose observation, though.
