What's the point of making this closed? Our rivals are going to have plenty of film on us by the time we play them anyway.

But we only have 1 real exhibition. I thought we were trading one of those to play Dayton. I'm just wondering why it must be closed.

I think Dayton is a smaller team (they were last season anyway), so if CMP is going to have the team play this scrimmage like they were playing a game that counted, getting as many quality touches as possible for Hammons/Haas/Swanigan/Edwards/Taylor should be a primary focus.

I wonder if we will get any published stats or reports from this scrimmage? I know it's closed to the media but can the SID publish info?
See above. This isn't a scrimmage in a game format so IMO stats are pretty worthless. I think each coach wants the other team to do what they do best and his team needs practice on. I just wish the non conference games were all televised.

Stats are not kept. This is not a scrimmage in a game format. They will run sets, stop action, re adjust, run sets again. It's basically like we are practicing with someone other than ourselves.

Don't get too hyped over this thing. It's not a scrimmage in a traditional sense. Everyone will just have to wait till the 8th to see this team in action

I assume walk-ons and other deep bench guys will play because there is really nothing at stake, but here's an example of how the lineups might look (in my typical write-up style) if this game counted (to give those not aware an idea of the Dayton personnel involved):

Projected "Starters":

Purdue

1 #1 Johnny Hill 6'2 180 Sr. (grad transfer from Texas-Arlington)
2 #35 Rapheal Davis 6'5 215 Sr.
3 #12 Vince Edwards 6'8 220 So.
4 #50 Caleb Swanigan 6'9 245 Fr.
5 #20 A.J. Hammons 7'0 250 Sr.

Dayton

1 #11 Dayshon "Scoochie" Smith 6'2 180 Jr.
2 #3 Kyle Davis 6'0 175 Jr.
3 #4 Charles Cooke 6'5 190 Jr. (transfer from James Madison)
4 #25 Kendall Pollard 6'6 235 Jr.
5 #5 Steve McElvene 6'11 265 Fr. (RS last season due to being only partial qualifier)

Projected "Reserves" (i.e. mostly regular season rotation guys):

Purdue

1 #3 P.J. Thompson 5'9 175 So.
2 #31 Dakota Mathias 6'4 190 So.
2 #14 Ryan Cline 6'5 180 Fr.
2 #21 Kendall Stephens 6'7 195 Jr.
3 #5 Basil Smotherman 6'6 215 Jr. (I think he can play in this, even if he redshirts this season)
5 #44 Isaac Haas 7'2 280 So.

Dayton

1 #15 John Crosby 6'2 185 Fr.
2 #1 Darrell Davis 6'4 170 So.
3 #33 Ryan Mikesell 6'6 190 Fr.
3 #22 Bobby Wehrli 6'6 205 Sr.
4 #20 Xeyrius Williams 6'8 195 Fr.
5 #2 Sam Miller 6'9 240 Fr.

Who Won't Play:

Dayton

4/3 #21 Josh Cunningham 6'7 210 So. (transfer from Bradley sitting out this season; will not scrimmage due to injury)

Does anyone know where this will be in Indy?

Basil CAN'T play in this game if he redshirts.....or better said, non-freshman cannot play in exhibition games or secret scrimmage and still redshirt without applying for a medical redshirt. Freshman can play in the exhibitions and still redshirt after.

I thought that scrimmages were viewed differently than exhibition games by the NCAA. If they're not, then my mistake.

This probably will sound weird but I have a nightmare that Dayton destroyed us in this scrimmage. Final score for a set of three was like 96 to 63 accumulated to Dayton. Glad its not a traditional scrimmage and will only be sets and situational.

The NCAA must have declared most of the team to be ineligible for "secret scrimmages". Was that a precursor to the action?

I think this team would be capable of putting the opposite result on Dayton.

To me, biggest value from this thing with Dayton is testing our team against full court pressure from a quicker D1 team without the risk of a loss on our record. I have to think this will be one of the areas of emphasis from our team's perspective. If we learn some things on that front, I think this secret exhibition is a better thing to do than another public exhibition against a sub-D1 opponent.

Will there be coverage of the "secret" scrimmage? I mean will someone be able to share with us any of it? Tweets? Pics? Or is the whole thing a secret? Come on man.

For some strange reason, that rule only applies to freshman. If Basil plays in an exhibition, he can't redshirt.

We still haven't gotten any news about any one of Smotherman, Mathias, or Cline redshirting. Going on your statement above, wouldn't that have to be decided before this scrimmage?

It wouldn't have to be decided before the scrimmage, but Smotherman or Mathias would have to sit out the scrimmage in order to redshirt. The decision could be made later. Cline, as a freshman, could play but still redshirt.

Teams are allowed to release stats and scores after secret scrimmages now. Just can't promote prior to the scrimmage.

Phew glad the team got out of there with a win. Dying to know the stats! Love this idea of replacing an exhibition game with a double secret sauce Scrimmage against a legitimate team. Much better indication of where we will be than playing Southeastern New Hampshire Tech.

It's no wonder izzo wanted him rebounding is his mo. I loved the fact he lied to Dawson that we would have him playing center and then he leads big ten last year in rebounding lol

Heard Vince had over 20 points as well. If AJ Hammons is our 3rd leading scorer this year we are national title contenders.

It's possible AJ's numbers drop and he is a significantly better player. That's sort of incredible to think about but more of an indication of the ability of Caleb and what seems to be the massive improvement of Vince.

With the matchup problems we will bring to opponents, we should be able to shoot a relatively high percentage shot nearly every possession. There should not be too many last ditch prayer floaters. As far as scoring distribution among the bigs, it could be a different guy with the most points on any given night, depending on which opposing player is guarding each of our players. Weak links will be exploited.
