I'll stick with my original thought: 5-7 with an invite to a bowl that doesn't get its conference alignments filled because there are 200 bowl games (tic). That will probably put Purdue against a #2 or #3 team from the MWC/MAC/Sunbelt...or a 6-8 from a P5 conference.Have your season predictions changed after watching game one? What are they now?
Might hedge it 1 game closer to bowl elgibility.
4-8 was my pre-season expectation. 5-7 can be our realistic high water mark this year. Games against Missouri, Minnesota, & Indiana are all toss up games. Ohio, Rutgers and Illinois are wins I'm counting at this moment. Nebraska at Home, Northwestern and Iowa on the road are still programs we're trying to elevate to be on par with and are likely a year away.
Get a win against 1 of the toss up teams and 1 of the teams we shouldn't beat and that is the 5-7 season.
Could a 6-6 season happen? You bet! If they continue to play inspired like last night and win the turnover margin, we're going bowling this year. Open the piggy bank and pay bonuses for the coaching staff at the Holidays. I'm sure that last part is already in their contracts, but wanted to say anyways. Keep Holt and the Brohm brothers as long as we can...please!
staying w/ 4.I'll stick with my original prediction of 4 guaranteed wins and a possible 6 win season. Louisville IS a high octane offense and also one with a Qb that can do multiple things well. I see wins over Illinois, IU, Rutgers and Ohio with possible wins over NW and Minn. the ball could bounce our way against Iowa and missou, but I don't expect it.
Admittedly, our defense gave up a lot of points and yards, but we played against a team that averaged over 40 points last year, and we actually did make several goal line stands holding them to 0 points and Fgs.
beating Ohio is a MUST win. We must start our season at least at 1-3 to have any momentum.
Played a bad FCS team and only threw 19 times. Solich will run the ball first which plays to Purdue's strength in the middle of the defense while allowing McCollum/Danny E/Bailey to make plays outside against the run. If Purdue can force Ohio to become one dimensional and not give up long passes down the seam (UL did that very wel), Purdue should get the win here. What do we know about ohio? Any good?
Big Ten coach of the year = yes. A national COY? No, there are many more coaches with unique stories as well at other programs just my two cents. If Brohm gets Purdue to a bowl game, does he stand a chance at COY?
Yes, meant conference coyBig Ten coach of the year = yes. A national COY? No, there are many more coaches with unique stories as well at other programs just my two cents.
I think 7-5 is possible. Consider that we should have beat Louisville. The player ejection killed us. However, the importance of preseason was getting the team to believe in themselves. After yesterday, they do.
BOOM!!! 6-6 did happen. What a year. With hiccups of Nebraska and Rutgers, I didn't see this as a possible outcome. What a difference a month makes. Great job Purdue players and Coaches.Might hedge it 1 game closer to bowl elgibility.
