Ryan Browne back in the portal

That didn't last long.
Imagine yourself as a head coach/staff an you now have to PLAN on losing your 1st, 2nd, 3rd et al starters. Injuries are bad enough (Heck, I remember when Hope was down to his 6th? QB at the OSU game...) but now you have to plan for that at EVERY POSITION. I think we as fans are going to see some very, very, VERY vanilla football over the coming years. These kids don't have time to learn all of the systems, and when they change a school, learn them all over again...

It's so hard to keep up these days. I see a headline that EJ Colson is leaving after spring ball? Maybe that's the reason Browne might be coming back or vice versa?
If " oh won't you stay" Browne doesn't come back, we should go after Angeli from nd

UNC decided to add a QB via the portal. so obviously Browne didn't like the potential competition, so he left hoping it would be easier to beat out the qbs at purdue

Be interesting to hear what Ryan thought of his time with the Grumpy Lobster-boat Caption.

I believe the Tenn transfer is leaning to UNC
I don't think so. UNC didn't want to pay him what he thinks he's worth. UCLA maybe a spot for him, but I think it would be funny if the kid overplayed his negotiation tactic and winds up at a place like Fresno State or UNLV for way less than TN was paying him.

Interesting situation. Not sure why anyone would even take him now.

It was a real shame to see Ryan Browne perform well, and then mostly do-little Card continue to play. I guess that if you pay a QB a lot it looks bad if you don't start him. If Ryan Browne had finished the season as a starter and continued to develop, we would have a clearer picture of his capabilities instead of a bunch of QBs with potential but little actual playing time to judge them by.

Why? It’s just the way things work now. If he is an upgrade at qb, then the coaches will welcome him…but he is far from a guaranteed starter, so maybe???
He didn’t want to be here so he left. Personally don’t want guys that don’t want to be here. Find some who do want to be here and move on from the ones that don’t.

agree. He's good 64% passing, 19 TDs to 5 INTs, 2600 yards. He's talented and has a high ceiling - one of the top high school prospects - he's apparently about to sign with UCLA and I believe for less than TN was paying him. TN and the SEC will cry foul and every other conference will agree and multi year contracts are next.

During a coaching transition, and someone was offering $$$ at unc. The reality is that “guys that want to be here” died with the dawn of the nil era

Absolutely true, but being an old fart will be hard for me to accept players leaving and then coming back. There’s enough other free agent pro’s they could rent for a year.

Didn't nico sign a 4 year nil deal when going to TN?

Tennessee told him to kick rocks after he demanded 4 million. Not sure why they’d have a problem? And from what I understand he already had a multi year deal.

Completely understand, nothing good about any of this nonsense

I'm not sure. His group saw the latest numbers going out and wanted to be in the top. He's from so cal, so maybe he really wanted to play closer to home and used NIL as the reason. I don't think he got the amount his group thought he was worth though.

the problem most likely is "solicitation" from another team. He entered the portal with a do not contact which could be interpreted as he already had an offer he wanted from some other team and he used NIL negotiations as the excuse. Agents and contracts in college sports need limitations placed upon them. I'd think revenue sharing will get to that point in the next couple years where players sign multi year contracts with performance adjustments etc.

From what I've read no teams are willing to pay much more than a million for his services, so tampering just doesn't make sense IMO. This is one of the biggest fumbles I've ever seen an athlete make, definitely the biggest in college. Guaranteed 2.5 on a really good Tennessee team and probably would have been drafted after this season. Now he's going to make a lot less, play on a worse team, and potentially get exposed without Tennessee level talent around him leading to him possibly not getting drafted.

Not to mention, it probably seemed exciting to have the Grumpy Lobster-boat Captain make an offer. Glad he is coming back, if he is. The new staff must want him.

Having never played a game, did he receive any NIL money from UNC like a signing bonus? Did he attend classes?
