Remember when we had no talent last year?

Mbow will definitely be drafted. Add him to your list but take Mockobee off. We all like him and he’s a good college back, but I seriously doubt he has an NFL career.

I would love to see some evidence of your claims about tailoring schemes. I’m 99.9% certain you have not done comprehensive analysis of the schemes of Brohm at WKU and Cignetti at JMU and how they modified them at their new school. You just see success and make this claim based on nothing because you are so hung up on this defensive scheme. Just run a 2 deep shell and we’d be bowl eligible, right? Lol
I think a 2 deep shell makes it tougher just because of the complete lack of LB talent but whatever we are doing with the front 6-7 in this defense definitely isn’t it.

We were better with Scourton getting after the QB last year but still couldn’t stop the run and still gave up huge chunk plays because we had guys in man coverage who couldn’t cover.

What would you do with the front 7 of this defense? The players are terrible. Jenkins can play. Heldt has ability but is dumb because he’s poorly coached. The rest are guys who would not see the field for any other P2 team.

Talking about the 2023 roster, which had more than a “couple” of NFL players… Tracy, Scourton, Burks, Theineman, Mock and Hartwig… and possibly others... Cignetti didn’t inherit a better roster from Allen. Nor did Brohm inherit a better roster from Hazell.
Nor does IU have a sizable NIL advantage, in Football.

They took what was there, added to it, and tailored schemes around that talent. They didn’t force “their” schemes onto talent that can’t execute it.

I put more blame on MBob for this fiasco. A 36 year old DC who has never been a head coach was never going to work here.
You've named one person on the online, and one hybrid player on defense. Mock isn't likely to be in the NFL.

Two of the five left because we wouldn't pay them NIL money, so now you are left with 3. None on the lines, or receiver, or QB, RB, LB, CB.

So all you've highlighted is we could count the number of NFL players on one hand, and lost almost half because the admin is too cheap to retain them, and didn't bring in any new ones because again we aren't opening up the checkbook.

Brohm had an NFL QB on the roster when he arrived. Some positions are more important than others.

I think you could work it a lot of different ways and be Better. Not great but a not give up 50 to Illinois better.

I’d go Jenkins, Brevard, M’Ba and Anderson on the line. Thineman, Yanni and Heldt at LB. Grant, Green, Breedlove and Stevens at DB.

I think that lineup would do better than our current alignment.

Sure. It’s not lockdown D but they wouldn’t be out of position on the snap like they are currently. We struggle to cover the opponents formation surface pretty much every play. I think we could change that pretty quick in a 4-3, react better and faster to the outside run (and run in general) and help or DBs in coverage. Would absolutely help us not get beat by man beater concepts over and over and over.
