Remember when we had no talent last year?

We had a lot more talent last year than this year, including Scourton who will be a 1st round draft pick and WRs who could catch the ball.

We lost a lot more talent in the transfer portal than what we received back from the portal in the offseason. Walters stays, then it will be even worse this year.

If it’s true that Walters is getting another year, then he must be a good salesman and convinced the people over him, that he can turn things around with more time and money. If it doesn’t happen, then more than coaching staff need to go.

Go pull for UL.
I’m a Purdue fan. I don’t really care about Brohm any longer but I’m not going to sit around while the half brains on this board like you blame anything and anybody but the current coach for the issues we have.

I was hyper critical of Walters last year but it was obvious we were getting less out of more last year. Fast forward a year we are less talented and twice as inept. You can’t blame a guy 22 months removed from the program for the failures of the guy in the seat now. Sure, it would have been great if he left a fully stocked roster…but what coach that leaves any program has a fully stocked roster? When has Purdue ever had a fully stocked roster?

You know ball! LOL YOU keep bringing him up. YOU are the Brohm ass kisser on the board. No one here cares any more. Are you just trying to puff your ego? You are totally nonsensical. If you knew shit from shinola you would be making suggestions instead of just bitching. You provide nothing but comedy.

2003 was as close as Purdue has come to that in my lifetime.
The Brees 2000 team was pretty stacked too.

I think the 2000 team had the best OL that Purdue has had in many, many years. The 2003's defense was probably better than the 2000 team. I love Orton, but obviously the QB was better in 2000 with Brees of course.

2003 was by far the best team of my lifetime. Not old enough to have been alive for the late 70s 10 win team. 2003 was pretty stacked, and freakiung lost to Bowling Green lol. 2002 was the best bad team I have ever seen.

The only people bringing Brohm up are those attempting to excuse Walters for what we see on the field each game.

5%.

The other 95% was a bunch of 20 and 30-something coaches having their collective heads up their collective backsides…
You Brohm lovers can go to Louisville. Brohm did leave substantial holes without a doubt. Giving Brohm credit for Tracy’s outstanding play is absurd. Brohm played him in the wrong position, so give Walters credit for that improvement. That being said give Walters a first year pass. Walters took out his shopping cart and went shopping in the Portal to fix those holes for this year. This year’s performance is solidly on his shoulders. The Portal has changed the landscape from the past. Look at IU’s performance this season. Yes, they have a much better schedule for sure than Purdue but we haven’t even been competitive except for Illinois. I stuck up for Walters last year because of Brohm, but this year’s performance is entirely on Walters. He should have at the very least improved performance from last year and been competitive. I don’t see how you can fix the situation other than firing Walters.

The poor fundamentals have always been there with this coach. That’s not on Brohm.

You Walters lovers could leave and go where he goes but I don't think anyone is going to want him after Purdue.

I’m confident if/when Walters leaves Purdue, He’ll find a new job somewhere else. Look at Walter’s assistants. They were all assistants somewhere. Look at the jets head coach. The packers gave him a job 1 week after he was fired. Hazell was hired by the Vikings.

Once you’re a coach, it’s easy to find another job. Look at all the offers Myers received and still receives. It’s the same with Gruden.

Brilliant.
Thank you for agreeing with me. Here is another tidbit for you.

Much like Tracy and AOC, I’m confident there will be Players that Walters recruited that will perform well in the NFL and you will have the same posts of he left the cupboard bare or you will say how can Purdue have been so bad with so many former Purdue players playing in the nfl!

No, but some did blame the Walters 2023 debacle on Brohm leaving him no players.
Left him very few players and many key positions were bereft.

Combine that with idiotic scheduling, hiring a new coach last minute on the cheap, being cheap on NIL, and yes a coach without the experience to maximize what remained and you have the recipe for what is going on.

"Coach bad, new coach good" is such a simplistic view and one I hope isn't adopted by the AD. A new coach doesn't solve this without a total monetary investment in the program.

Walters inherited some good players, including a handful that will be/are in the NFL, and it’s up to him to supplement those players with his own guys, like Brohm did in 2016/17, and like Cignetti has done this year at IU.

And then to put those players in schemes that maximize their collective talents. Not force his idiotic 5-2 scheme onto them, for example.

This is generally called “coaching football”. All the things Walters can’t handle!

You can’t compare this to Cignetti. He brought 13 already bought in players with him. Walters inherited a roster with a lot of issues, but he then made it worse with a total whiff in the portal. That paired with a child staff that doesn’t know what to do or how to create a culture is how you get this 1-11 debacle.

Cignetti knows how to evaluate. Walters doesn’t. That’s part of the job.

Putting that talent in the right scheme is also part of the job. Walters sucks at that also.

If I remember right, I think that entire line played in the NFL, with some of those guys (Light, in particular) having pretty long NFL careers.

Ok but for you to say Walters should’ve done what Cignetti did is flat out dumb. There’s no legitimate argument that can be made to liken these two scenarios.

It’s his job to accurately evaluate and bring in players, and then to put them in position to succeed. Like many, many other coaches have done, and are doing, including Cignetti.

Why are you arguing as if there is anyone who thinks Walters has done anything but a terrible job? There is literally not one person on this board who believes in this coach. Stop trying to draw silly parallels that don’t exist.

Very few. His own guys? He didn't have over a dozen players to bring over. The collective talent is bottom of the conference. It's why we were universally ranked there.
