Would like to see them keep some of the foreign languages, especially Russian. God help us if one of our trade negotiators had to rely on a Kremlin provided translator.
There is still a degree in General Studies. That seems like a worthless major, but maybe not if the focus was in a high-tech area.

Well, someone can still study Russian and learn the language. But is a degree in Russian a worthwhile course of study?

As a frosh at Purdue, I signed up for Beginner Spanish (forget the actual name). I dropped it after the first class. Everyone in there was spoke fluent Spanish.

Well, if you're going to study Russian, getting a degree guarantees and certifies a degree of mastery.
BTW, every native Spanish speaker I knew took beginning Spanish, for the Easy A of course. That probably happened for the native speakers of every foreign language :).
