Tim Miles you better thank them for that win. How many times can u miss a call down low???
1st half the whistle was so far up thier ass they couldn't find it if they tried. They wait till the last 10min. of the game to start calling something which is a piss poor way to call a game...this ain't the NBA playoffs.

I haven't seen that much home cooking in my life. I agree they mugged us the whole first half and continually missing calls in the second half. They had 3 and 1s where they weren't even touched.

The refs were awful. Cost us the game absolutely. And if not the refs, then Shon Morris cost us the game. That dude is bad news. We always have a bad game when he is announcing - can't stand listening to him! What a bummer, we got screwed - just when we could have made a nice jump in the polls!

We took 38 shots that weren't 3's. I'd say close to 30 at least were in the paint and we had maybe 3 or 4 shooting fouls at most. At the other end they were bailed out constantly inside even when Purdue would give up and let them score there was foul.

Might be wrong but I've never seen one those guys ref a game in my life?
Must stay in that part of the country.
I know the exact ref you're talking about. I remember thinking during the first half after a terrible call he made. I was like "who's this high school kid making bad calls like that, I've never seen him before in my life".

Nebraska was hounding players and leaning hard on our bigs with their chest while pushing with their legs, but since they weren't using their hands they were just "playing hard" and against guys way bigger than them. Poor Nebraska. If I'm biggie or Haas I'm acting like I'm getting shoved. No reward for being large and strong and being able to take a hit that's a foul on most.

Just ranting because we lost another game we should not have.

Kelly Pfeifer is the young guy. He has been working B1G games for a couple years now. John Higgins was one of the other ones. He is one of the busiest refs in college basketball. You see him on televised games virtually every weekend. He has worked in all the major conferences for years.

Not sure how much college basketball you watch, but these weren't newbies. While I don't think they were very good today, they didn't cost us the game. We took care of that ourselves many times over.

.
Both ended up on the floor multiple times after hard contact with no foul call. Not sure what flopping due to lesser contact would have accomplished.

Stop. Matt Painter is lazy coaching; force feeding to the Big Turnover repeatedly down the stretch and not running the offense that got you the lead. Terrible coaching. Pathetic.

IIRC, it was a bad pass that he had to almost dive forward to catch. He had too much momentum and it was hard to control the shot. I don't blame him as much as the bad pass.

The refs didn't cost us this game. I am, however, totally baffled how a guy the size of an oak tree and is pretty agile for his size ends up on the floor multiple times without ever being fouled.

I don't agree that Painter is a lazy coach, but I do think the turnovers are as big a problem as the officiating.

I'm sure it's in bold on every scouting report that all three of Purdue's bigs (Haas, Biggie, Vince) have had problems with turnovers. As long as that goes on, opponents would be silly not to beat on these guys relentlessly in an effort to force more.

Tim Miles is a savvy coach. He knows the officials aren't going to blow the whistle every time the ball goes inside. I'm sure he's not the only one who's on to that.

He was lazy feeding Biggie every play down the stretch .

Absolutely. I didn't say he always is.

I don't know if it's lazy to put the ball in the hands of your best player in crunch time. But I do think the execution could have been much better.

1) Biggie could have handled the ball better. Any shot would have been better than back-to-back turnovers.

2) There could have been some movement along the perimeter to create a Plan B outside shot rather than a simple isolation play that put everything on Biggie while also allowing Nebraska to double or even triple team him.

Here is why it was "lazy":

Purdue was running their offense beautifully up to the point where Purdue decided to neglect what got them the lead (running the offense) and force feed Biggie every time. Is he their best player? No doubt. Does he lead the team in turnovers and force shots/plays (especially when the game is on the line)? Yes sir. Was every possession crucial down the stretch? You know it.

So, would you force the ball to Biggie every possession in crunch time when Neb had been successfully double teaming him at any and every opportunity? You wouldn't. It's counter intuitive. I think "lazy" is a kind term. You could say "dumb" but giving Painter the benefit of the doubt due to established goodwill he's earned. He is no moron but abandoning the offense to rely on Biggie and Biggie's decision making was "lazy". Lazy like abandoning your stout D that gets you a lead in football and just relying on the prevent because it's the easy thing to do. It lacks creativity. It lacks sense. It's lazy.

Run the damn offense.

Ya, GS, I probably agree more than I disagree.

The only thing I can think is that Painter must have been so sure that Biggie could beat Jacobson one-on-one that he didn't want to risk trying anything else.

It was a strange sequence. Both possessions took so long to develop that Nebraska's defense just collapsed in on Biggie -- and there was apparently no real thought of kicking it back out for an outside shot.

I don't think I'd try that strategy again on the road or in the NCAA tournament. Too many people know that Swanigan is turnover prone to have him handle the ball by himself in side for more than a second or two. Throw the ball into the post, if Biggie can make a move toward the basket, great. But, if not kick it back outside. Purdue has something like 3 or 4 guys shooting better than 40% from beyond the arc. Just don't isolate Biggie down low against a bunch of guys who can knock the ball away. For all his turnover problems, Swanigan is really good at passing out of the post.
