Without looking, can you guess each S16 team based on where their starting 5 started their careers. #OneofTheseThingsisNotLiketheOthers

Wow, that's tougher than it looks! I'll go with:

Top row L to R: Auburn, Michigan, Ole Miss, MSU, Florida, Maryland, ???, Arkansas

Bottom row L to R: Duke, ???, BYU, Bama, Houston, Purdue, ????, Tennessee

Tech , Arizona and UK are your missing 3!

Are any others wrong?

I know Michigan only because we've heard about their roster a million times. I know Bama because Mark Sears started at Ohio. I know Maryland only because Queen had to start there. I don't know how many BYU guys Pope brought to Kentucky. A few others I was just playing percentages.

Pope brought Robinson but he is hurt and out for year. SDSU is Lamont Butler. tech has Howard bison, so Elijah Hawkins (played at Minny last year and was assist leader behind Braden). Arizona has Love from UNC but what helped me was the Oakland bear with Trey Townsend…he helped upset UK last year with Gohlke (sp?).

Wow that is pathetic. Credit to Purdue, Duke and Mich st for running their programs correctly. Credit to houston and BYU as well for having 3 out of 5. The rest are just pimps buying teams. Disgusting!

Unfortunately, when the bulk of the Sweet 16 looks like that it's powerful inducement for everyone else to try to do the same.

It is interesting that three of the coaches who are most established in their current jobs (Izzo, Painter, Sampson) have the most home-grown lineups, while the most portal-heavy lineups tend to be at places where the coach is in his first few years. Scheyer and Young are exceptions (of course, one of those is Duke), and I'm a little surprised that Rick Barnes is starting 60% transfers at Tennesseee.

Still, I wonder if guys like Dusty May, Chris Beard, Mark Pope, Tommy Lloyd, and Nate Oats will gravitate back to emphasis on high school recruiting in the name of roster stability as they become more established.

Calipari and Pearl will probably always be mercenaries.

It would have been a lot better exercise if the teams weren't in bracket order.

But the point is obvious nonetheless. I saw this tweet around the same time you did. I didn't know a lot of those. Forgot Goldin started somewhere other than FAU.

Duke does start 3 freshmen, so their labels aren't as meaningful. Purdue 1, MSU 1 (just Jase?)

CBS Sports Network just had a segment called Portal Combat. Showed the logos and you had to guess which team it was. Perfect chance to then show Purdue with nothing but "P" Logos. Did they do it........nope, never mentioned Purdue. Idiots.
