This is Maryland's first time at Mackey. We need to give them a nice welcome.... to the Hell of the Paint Crew & Mackey noise!

Wish Painter would use our depth/bench and play aggressive and get Trimble and ex dookie Soolyyyyyman (sp? and don't care to be honest) in foul trouble.

Our bigs can control Mr. Stone and Biggie is healthy now and should be able to keep up with Mr. Carter, if not put Edwards on him or Davis.

It will be a close one but I see Purdue winning it by 5.....PU 83 Maryland 78

Are they in good shape with Malik Williams? I hope there's real mutual interest. Who else is being mentioned in the 2017 class?

There's quite a bit of in-state talent with Wilkes, Scruggs, Jackson and Williams. Painter seems to have chased most of them pretty hard but the big boys are lingering which likely does not bode well. I think Wilkes and Williams have recently visited M$U and I think KU and UK may be looking at Wilkes as well.

Of the ones you mentioned, which one (if you were only allowed to pick one) do you think Painter and his staff have the best chance of getting a commit from right now?

(BTW, to anyone reading this, sorry for taking my own thread OT)

As asked earlier, does anyone have a list of prospects attending?

If I recall, didn't we lead at MD for 3/4 of the game...........only to piss it away in the final 5 or 6 minutes? Going toe to toe with them there, means we should win at home. No doubt this is a must game for BIG seatings as well as the NCAA'S! We need a confidence booster win so we can get a little SWAG going into tourney.

Just an opinion but, gun to my head, Williams. Primarily because of our success lately with big guys (even though Williams is more of a stretch 5 than a true post).

After reading this board the past couple of weeks I'm not sure why we're even playing the rest of our games. Think I'm gonna take a timeout from this font of basketball wisdom for awhile.

The game at MD was a case of home cooking in my mind. We know we can compete with them. This one at Mackey should give us the confidence we need to prove it. Play with a chip on our shoulder. Take it to them for 40 minutes. Btfu!

double edged sword. We need to win for our own sake but beating Maryland helps iu tie us in big ten championships won.
I think it is impossible for us to finish ahead of IU, so I have no problem giving them a little help by beating Maryland. Every win we get in the next few weeks is more important to Purdue's seeding than anything we can/cannot do for IU.

I think Maryland's starters can be as solid a group as there is in CBB, depending on the night. We need to go at Stone IMO - get him into foul trouble and onto the bench. Containing Trimble, Sulaimon, Layman, and Carter will be a challenge - any of them can go off for 20+ - our D needs to be significantly better than it was against IU. We also need to avoid offensive lulls. One final key: our bench needs to outperform theirs. I think we can do it, but as others have said, we need to play for 40 min. Good test with the post-season coming up.

carter and sulaimon are huge problems for us. It might be worth trying to zone them at times. We played pretty well against them the first time. They had a lot of trouble with us when we were on offense, but my god did we miss a lot of open 3s.

I agree with you, CRBoiler. The trio of Hammons, Haas, and Swanigan can be strong enough in the paint to get Stone into foul trouble and maybe even DQ him.

I noticed in the game at Maryland two weeks ago that CMP was playing Hammons/Haas as a sort of one-man zone while everyone else played man D. They were also backing off their guys at times (except for the pick-up pressure on-the-ball, which doesn't work with Trimble or Sulaimon using a high-ball screen to get by Thompson, Hill, Davis, or whoever else), sort of playing a "soft" man-to-man. I liked seeing CMP use some different looks on D in that game, no matter how subtle they were.

I'd be happy with any one of Malik Williams, Paul Scruggs, or Kris Wilkes. Assuming that Haas and Swanigan are still in school by 2017 (IH would be a Sr., Biggie a Jr.), Williams would give the Boilers the kind of big they haven't had since JaJuan Johnson.

Does anyone have any other keys (besides obvious smart aleck ones: i.e. score more points than them) to winning for the Boilermakers today?

Without studying statistics, I will take a wild guess that AJ needs to be emotionally motivated today... and I don't consider that a smart aleck one. If he isn't ....

I'll say that Purdue needs Davis to score some points today. Purdue cant afford to have a no show on offense from him.

Limit TOs. Wish Davis could also force some TOs and that would lead to some offensive production for himslef and others.

Like to see hill and Mathias get more minutes today and keep all/other guys fresh guarding Trimble, odds are he wont be as cold shooting as game 1.

You bring up a good point and it made me realize this. The last three seasons (including this one), the incoming senior-transfer guard has led Purdue in steals per game. (this season: Johnny Hill, last season: Jon Octeus, two seasons ago: Sterling Carter) It's time for Ray and others to step up and be more active in forcing TO's! Also, it will be beneficial if Swanigan, Hammons, and co. can cut back on theirs a little bit. With that stated, we want the bigs to be as aggressive as they can be when they have position or an opening, so cutting back on TO's might be asking too much (might just be about the same amount as usual).

Let's go! Beat down Maryland!

Darn missed it by 1 point....I said 83 to 78.....it was 83 to 79.

I will work on it.....

It was quite a battle and a rollercoaster, but they got the win! Now it's time to avenge the road loss at Nebraska two seasons ago. Boiler Up

Tim Miles is a pretty good coach. Probably mid-pack as a strategist, near top as a recruiter (not easy to recruit basketball in Omaha), and a top motivator. A bit quirky but don't you have to be to coach this game? Prediction: 14 point victory.

Lincoln, Nebraska, not Omaha, as Peyton Manning says (just for the sake of knowing)

It will be tough and definitely a contrast in roster structure. They have a lot of solid guards and wings, but only a couple of post players and they're not standouts.

I don't want to make any predictions. I just want the Boilers to not get too up after a win (don't believe the "hype") and not get too down after a loss (don't despair, even though a lot of us do on this board after one; there are good points made, in our defense). Be smarter than we are, lol.
