Purdue to play Kentucky in an exhibition game at Rupp Arena

Should benefit both programs.

Rick And Morty Im In GIF

Been wanting to see a game at Rupp for quite some time…this is the perfect opportunity!

Wish it was regular season, but couldn't ask for better exhibition opponent. This will be a sellout like the past couple of years have been @ Ark and @ Creighton.

Will be real interested to see if anymore big programs are going to Bahahmas.....

Good to see we aren’t scared of playing in Lexington like some other Indiana schools
I'll let you figure that one out on your own.

But should be a good one. Two to 5 teams in an exhibition. Too bad it isn't a legit game but I doubt either coach treats it like it's meaningless. Can't wait for basketball season to arrive.

Painter will play anyone he thinks can help prepare his team for March. The transfer portal has made teams like Duke and Kentucky beatable. One thing I know for sure our fans are up for a challenging schedule. You have to stack them up to knock them down. There can be no victory in an exhibition game, but you can use it as a teaching moment. No one benefits from cupcake D2 schools unless it's the cupcakes team budget. We have been a better team under Painter than Kentucky in the same time frame. And we will be the best team in Rupp regardless of the outcome.

Painter 100% treats it like an exhibition, just like 2 years ago at Arkansas and last year at Creighton.

LOVE it…

Izzo is a whiny slimeball, but he is spot-on correct when it comes to scheduling: play anybody anywhere.

We know the planet is intimidated by playing in Mackey — who cares if Purdue gets a return game??

Challenge yourselves!!!

I have no problems with an away exhibition game that doesn’t get reciprocated. Definitely not a regular season game though.

Figure what out on my own?

Why’d you need 10 guys in the portal?
Okay I'll break it down once.

Indiana travels to Lexington in December.

Indiana coach Darian DeVries cleaned house. Both roster and staff, even including long standing Dr. Tim Garl. So Indiana has brought in 10 portal transfers and 1 freshman(so far). Hope it helps you.

I put their records last year before there names. What would concern me as IU fan is there are a ton of low-mid major guys who have not had any experience winning at those levels, let alone the B1G.

Devries should be a stud. We'll see if Conerway can translate up a couple levels. For the rest of the guys, stats are just stats when you are losing IMO. I know everyone will point to Tonje, Florida gaurds, and those portal success stories, but going this heavy on this many mids with losing pedigree is risky IMO. We'll see.....

Well they should be good for 120 per game once they power up in those stripe pants

It would be funny if he threw the starters out there for a full 40 minutes and just put a bruising on UK to make a point. We all know he won't, but man that would be hilarious.
Which starters? We have like 10 of them. I'm ready. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Kentucky is always good and a road game makes it even better.

We should get some answers for sure after this game is over.

I can’t imagine a less meaningful stat than points per game for a bunch of transfers who played completely different roles at their last team, but yeah, that’s cool.

With all respect, we won’t even know what the questions are that Painter is trying to answer in this game.

Hat's off to Painter for scheduling high-major exhibitions on the road. No doubt it's great team preparation.

At the same time, it would be great for the fans to hold one of these in Mackey.
It’d be great for Purdue fans but the team (especially the younger guys) get way more out of the experience if it’s on the road in a hostile/crazy environment vs (an expected) top team.

So far, when we have lost these exhibitions, we have gone further in the tourney than the team that beats us (not sure there’s any correlation though 😂).

UK should be real good this year and Rupp will be rockin. They’ll get to see what could have been, had Smith gone there 😂

….gonna be a long summer In anticipation!!!

Purdue haters will balk, but the consistent thread in these scrimmages is that MP doesn't care if Purdue wins and may actually prefer they lose. Per your point, great experience either way.

Actually, Purdue seems to be the off season champs this year. Indiana is flying well of the radar(which I like). And Purdue deserves it.
The difference in Purdue's off-season championship versus most is that their primary 'wins' came in the form of retaining current players.

Sort of like IU bringing back TJD except with another AA candidate and a bunch of other good players around him. We'll see how it goes for Purdue, but that was a decent season for IU with limited support outside of JHS.

Retaining Smith was massive. Which I didn't personally believe he was ever close to leaving. Getting Cluff was huge too. Cox and Harris were probably the most likely to get plucked and Purdue was able to keep them. There is a reason Purdue will be #1 to start the season.
