Purdue Pete Knockoff

It is probably less common now, with trade mark/copyright infringements and such; back in the day (40-60 years ago), it was a fairly common practice that wasn't limited to high schools:

The Hobart Brickies had the exact same mascot (only with an "H" on chest), exact same colors but have since updated him:

Anyone care to guess which Indiana high school mascot this character below is?

I'm going to guess the Jimtown Jimmies, since I'm from Middlebury originally.

Jimmer says "You JAMMED that one straight outta the GYM!!"

Middlebury, huh? That would make you Falcon, correct? Is the big dairy still operating in Middlebury?

That is Millersburg for the Fairfield Falcons. Middlebury is the Northridge Raiders.

Not sure on the dairy, I know my dad worked for the creamery (long ago out of business) as a kid.

Northridge, even better yet; that school seems to have solid athletic teams across the board, year-in and year-out.

I did mean the creamery... toured the facility a long time ago, it was impressive; sorry to hear they went out of business, I loved their stores back in the day.

Those are all good images. The fact that Duke had that logo makes me think maybe Purdue wasn't the original.

However, I remember reading that University Bookstore created that particular Pete circa 1940

I love that Pete by the way.

Wow, no matter the school, he's ripped! How'd you like to root for a team which has ET as their mascot?

You haven't been hanging out with any "Reasonable Guys" lately, have you? I ask only because you're starting to sound like those guys.

Which Iowa logo do you prefer... ET or Parrot-Hawk?

Here is Pete the last time both of our fine institutions made it to the Final Four:

I heard one of the guys that was Purdue Pete in the late-90s say "Yeah, we call that Pete "James and the Giant Peach Pete".

I'm pretty sure the University Bookstore Pete was first, copyrighted on August 28, 1940; according to the link below, the artist that created him did create other mascots as well. The Debris of 1944 featured Pete prominently, which only increased his popularity.

This link also states they aren't sure when Pete's name transitioned from "Boilermaker Pete" to "Purdue Pete", but in looking at the 1944 Debris pages included in link, on page 1 he is introduced as "Boilermaker Pete", and only 11 pages later they refer to him as "Purdue Pete", so I'm guessing the alliterative name transformation started in the early '40s.

On page 4 is my favorite Pete of all time:
