Purdue got hosed.

Sorry. You are too poor to go to a s16 in indy... I also was in Phoenix last year. What's it like being poor?
This is the best retort you have? You haven't been here long enough to know just how untrue that statement is.. but you do you.

I figured you had nothing of substance to add and you went and proved that in rather short order. Carry on Jan.

Please stop with the fixed game. When calls go against Purdue late it hurts. But no it wasn't fixed. If it was the refs Never would have let it get that close. Bad refs OK, but fixed, just no. However, if you truly believe that, you should never watch college basketball again, why watch if it's fixed?

Our best game of the year was beating Bama...Bama > Houston. If played…it would be interesting to be see if Bama could hang a 100 points on the UH defense.

My retort to your comment is i was at the game. idk what your problem is, there was an obvious change in how the game was called in the second half. either you believe the officials just magically decided to stop calling fouls against hack and slash defense or something impacted their officiating.

So do you just disagree with the fact that the officiating crew changed their calls at half time or that Kelvin's impact was greater than painters?

You crossed the line and don't deny it.

And btw, we fired Walters, so you should change your handle.
Nah he was a dick first he crossed the line. He assumed i don't watch painter because I have 1 gripe that has annoyed me for years. even when I was at purdue during the baby boiler years.

He then goes yeah sure you were, when my comment was i was at the stadium.

He could have provided any thing if substance but decided to be a dick.

He could have come up with an excuse, theory, sound reasoning or pure conjecture how the officials only called 5 fouls on an aggressive uh, meanwhile purdue got hosed for the last 5 minutes.

So nah I don't give a flip about bbg and his drivel.

So I'm done with his rhetoric and his childish behavior.

I treat children as they treat others.

Fouls were 14-13. Agressive teams with good defensive reputations get away with stuff. It's not because Cellvin worked the refs better. The refs are human. They know going in UH is "tough and aggressive" and I'm sure in their minds some of those hard plays that they might call in another game their split-second reaction is to chalk it up to good defense.

The refs were atrocious. They missed calls both ways.

But the 2-3 out of bounds errors, and even some error calls made by us make me wish college coaches had a red flag rule....kinda similar to Pro football.

Change though, I would prefer it was done in studio by a separate ref on giant screen TV versus those tiny monitors the refs use. No need for blatant errors when they can easily & quickly overturned. Max 60 seconds. 1 red flag per half, get it right awarded another red flag per half. Max 2. Wrong....lose a time out.

Be a great improvement.

And just think, I was going to ask if you were 12 and used your parents' riches to go to the game. Silly me.

Just another person to ignore. Enjoy your time.

Sorry but this is just not accurate. Painter works the refs constantly .. just because you aren't seeing it doesn't mean it isn't happening. I have zero doubt he was on the refs, he just doesn't make a spectacle of it.

Sampson and Painter were on the officials all game.....neither looked particularly pleased to me. Painter does it in a different fashion.......although I bet the Houston folks are probably just as upset over the goal-tending miss, etc. It's the nature of the beast. Painter commented that his only complaint was not missing the call but asking why can't you get some help from time to time......the one time, the official did look for help from his colleague - hell there's three guys out there. He also knew you can't go to a review there, outside 2 minutes.

Naturally, Big Ten favorite Paul Szelc was part of the crew. The one I had the biggest problem with is the one OOB call when it went off the Houston player's shin - they usually don't miss those right in front of them. But, they're going to miss some calls......usually (like it or not), the whistle favors the more aggressive team to a degree.......unless they're out of control.......have seen it for 50+ years.

All in all, I've seen a lot worse, and they were at least pretty consistent all night (fine if you want to say bad both ways....haha), so teams could adjust. Painter also stated it's on him, Purdue's team isn't as physical and needs to get more physical with the roster......Loyer and TKR also spoke of it as to Houston and gave them respect......good play.......I take that as a good sign after an obviously tough defeat.

Houston made a couple more plays than Purdue - and deserved to win, just the way it works......both teams were worthy, but one wins and one loses. Boilers now have to dig deep and come back focused - sooner or later, Painter and team have to find a way to break through against a top seed......whether it's in the Final Four or an earlier round. IF you get that kind of effort and then some we saw last night - that's the first crucial step. Things to build on if they truly reflect and are honest about where to improve and are committed to doing everything it takes to get there.......we shall see. Hate to see another disappointing loss in the final seconds.......but on the bright side, multiple little things showed encouraging signs.......next year is definitely shaping up to be a Purdue is pushing the chips "all in" kind of season. Are they up for it? A few things left undecided........we shall see.

Honestly, refs were bad both ways, the two missed oobs and the charge were probably make up calls for houston in the first half where they missed a clear goaltend and a ball that was out on us. Just sucks it happened in succession like that while we were trying to get back in the game.

Anyone who believe the game is fixed or the refs intentionally help another team is an idiot.

lot to be excited about for next year.
yeh, as dispiriting as it was to lose in a split second failure to guard the inbounder like that, we just nearly beat one of the best teams of the season & we’re returning almost everybody + we’ll have more rim protection with DJ returning… Braden’s going to have another elite year and probably even take it up another notch… excited for sure

Bad calls went both ways. Not sure how they could have missed the offensive push off at the end with all eyes on the play. Nevertheless, we lost the game because we could not grab a rebound when it mattered most.
I think it's a bigger deal if they make the call there and Purdue wins. It's a lesser deal if they don't and Houston wins. Meaning as far as a team getting screwed.

Irrespective of whether it should have been a foul or not.

That and a mental lapse on an inbound play.
It wasn’t a mental lapse - we have guarded inbounds plays like that most of this season. Braden made the call to cut off the angle on the cutter to the rim when Cox got screened hard.

Tugler made a heady play to throw back to Uzan for the basket as the rotations were late.

Did the B1G start to do background checks after this guy?

I don't think to the rim, Beef......but to prevent Cryer on the wing - although it was more to the rim on the one where Colvin stole it. Agree with Candace Parker - with that move from Braden, Purdue really needed to deny Tugler the inbound - anywhere else, they're probably in decent position.

It was a gamble from Purdue, but Houston was also ready for it - once again though, the Boilers get put on the wrong side of the highlight. Maybe one day, it's the other way around - I just hope I'm still around to see it (or have somebody tell me what happened......).

I'd have to watch it again, but not only the bolded, but I don't remember how much pressure was immediately placed on Tugler after he got the ball. Did we make it difficult for him to get the pass back to Uzan. I think it was TKR on him, but it may have been Heide. I was almost wondering if Furst should have been in for that play instead of Heide.

Sorry couldn’t recall exact specs but it wasn’t the first or last time we had done that inbounds defense. It worked as you mentioned when Myles got the steak. I honestly watched that play a dozen times and keep asking “who missed a rotation or assignment?”

Obviously someone was supposed to rotate back and think Cox got so out of position after the initial screen - Braden might have been better staying home.

Anyways - not resting in it….kudos to Houston because the had the ultimate counter when they needed it.

Yeah I mean Houston made the play. Braden switched, Cox was supposed to switch back, but don't know how easy that could have been in that short of a timeframe.

The refs stand out for the plays at the end, but I thought we got most of the calls in the first half. Add to that the obvious goaltending that was not called (and is not reviewable) and it's probably a wash. The key was that the calls that favored Houston were late.

And yes, Painter works the refs. He did last night plenty. He's just not an asshole about it and never will be.
I remember one ball clearly off us in the first half and the goaltend as two obvious bad calls in our favor. Of course then we had two obvious against us in the second.

I thought it was a poorly officiated game all around. That level of physicality should have led to more fouls on both teams.

Maybe so, but then TKR fouls out and we're dead. I'll take what they have after Roberts above what we have after TKR.

No worries, Beef - appreciate the observations/perspective/discussion. Fire up the chili.

Well I'm not sure TKR necessarily fouls out, I think their aggressive big fouls out first. But I also doubt we win in overtime if it gets there. They just had more consistent playmakers on both ends. Still, would have liked to see a better officiated game at that level of play. It's supposed to be the best of the best at that point.

Who said it was fixed?

Honest take, Purdue got the calls in the first half, second half favored Houston. I understand not calling the charge at the end, the call that killed Purdue was the out of bounds missed call, gave the Cougars 3 points.

I mean they did miss the first goaltending too, fouls weren’t why we lost. Just missed open shots that we usually hit. It happens . Really sucks but that was a great game to watch and was probably our best game all
Year
NCAA needs to make it an emphasis to have players keep their hands off opposing players. It will make for better basketball along with the potential for reducing injuries. TKR was obviously frustrated by Houston players hanging onto his left arm when he’s trying to rebound. Our players were a class act after the game by simply stating that Houston was “physical”.

Hand checking is specifically called out in section 4 of the NCAA rules yet totally ignored by most NCAA officials.
