Purdue at Oregon

McCarthy, Layden, Jones, Collier and Lombard the starters, Swanson leading scorer off the bench with 5, Jones with 4 and Puryear with 2. Bass did not play that quarter at all.

We are out rebounding them 14-9, out shooting them 43% to 30% but 12 turnovers to Oregon's 1 is the difference, OU up 20-14 now.

35-23 at half. Bass played the second quarter and is now our leading scorer with 6. Jones and Swanson with 5. Collier, McCarthy, and Lombard scoreless and we are still out rebounding them 21-15 but no longer out shooting them. All 9 boilers that have played have at least one turnover and Jones leads with 5.

OU 52- Purdue 36 end of third. Sophomores showing out this game given the chance to shine finally. Layden leads the team in rebounding with 8 and has 6 points. Jones leads in scoring, assists, and cough cough turnovers with 9, 3 and 6. Swanson also has 7 points. By class Sophs have 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists along with the only block (Layden) in the game for the boilers. Seniors have 6 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist between the 4 of them, and the frosh have 8 points, 7 rebounds, and one assist between the 3 of them with McCarthy having the assist. Purdue only added 3 turnovers that quarter, but the Ducks have smelled blood in the water and are going after us hard.

69 = 53 final.

Seniors 10 points between the 4 of them, although Petree only played a few minutes
Frosh 10 points between the 3 of them.

Sophs 33 points between the 3 of them.
Layden and Jones showed they should have been starting all season long so far leading the team in scoring, rebounding, and assists. Swanson chipped in 7 points, good for third on the team behind Jones 17 and Layden's 9.

Only 6 turnovers in the second half, but Oregon heated up on offense. Still won the rebounding battle 33-31.

17 turnovers in the first half did us in. This team isn't built to come back from deficits, and with how offensively challenged we are, we need to get a shot off as much as possible each possession down the court. Hard to do with 17 first half turnovers.

Negatives - Turnovers^

Collier - 31 mins. 0-2. Battled on the boards but for as much as she plays, she brings no threat driving to the hoop, isn't making plays for other teammates. She's probably in the right spot defensively but has her limits athletically. I wouldn't mind seeing Swanson take some of her minutes.

Positives -

Spider Jones - yes 6 turnovers, and most of them were horrendous, but she played much better in the 2nd half, maybe had 1 TO? in the 2nd. 17 points on 8-10. Drove the ball, had her mid range going. 4 asts as well. She's the only player as of now that can get to the bucket and create for others. Said it before, she's at her best when she's driving to score. When she's driving to pass, the bad outcomes are more likely to appear.

Layden - 9 points(career high?), 9 rebs. She was active defensively and battled down low. Good first start, I'd like to see her start the rest of the year and log heavy minutes. You can see her gaining confidence. She also does a relatively good job protecting the ball.

Final thoughts -

We really need a point guard who can take care of the ball, create open looks for everyone, and be a threat scoring wise. Reynolds and Poole need more minutes to see if one or both are able to play at this level.
