Purdue at Oregon: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Ppl need to understand Heide and Colvin are role players at this point. Their job is to defend, score a bit and rebound. They had 10 pts, 6 boards and 2 steals. Colvin played great defense on Shelstead. They did their jobs. If we can get 8–12 ppg and 6-10 rebounds between the two of them with good defense, then that’s helping out the team. If they can get more than that, then that’s even better. They’re playing their roles well.

Just like CJ and Harris are.
💯

Second half the officials were more balanced. Oregon went into a scoring abyss largely due to solid defense by the Boilers. I am so happy to have a reinvigorated Furst.

Burgess was questionable and that air ball was mind bending. I would have though Berg would have been helpful against Biddle but in Painter we trust. I still think Colvin and Heide need to figure out what the french toast they did with their game. Cox and Harris are playing ferocious defense, I love that even if they barely score.

I hope we win the next 5 in a row and defend home court but we as always will have a target on our backs. Momentum is singing Hail Purdue right now, let's hope they don't forget the lyrics.

Cam Heide was definitely more confident/engaged today - chipped in big with 9 points and 4 boards. Myles Colvin looked a little frustrated at times, but he had some good moments on defense......got taken out with some nickel/dimers to me, and the and-one with Bittle was ridiculous as DJ was out of position (yeah - I sound like Shooter I know.... :) )

Harris was definitely pumped up and confident to be out there in crunch time and he delivered in his role big time. He can also embrace the physicality unlike most freshman. Very good gut-check back alley brawl win for the Boilers.

I was going to come on here and tell you I thought Colvin played decent defense and had a better game. Then came the poor pass and the foul. I'll still give him a B grade for the defense.

Heide played well today and should get more time going forward.

Cox and Harris continue to improve in all areas of the game and by this time next season should be unbelievable.

True but at times Cam was not guarded and he never looked at the basket. In this game where it is physical inside and they are laying in the lane and Cam is open, he has to test the water early. I know he never felt it, but 21 was dedicated to help in Trey some. After Cam hit the three he wasn’t as open. 😁

We are going to like this freshman class. BTW 3 years ago the older Purdue players were talking about a couple of freshmen that didn’t play like freshmen and were full of confidence and now the rest of the country gets to see them

you can see the confidence in Harris game as the season has moved on, more confident shot and FT's. As far as Colvin, I was just glad he didn't get injured going up for that dunk by that big goof.

once in the 2nd half, Heide did put the ball on the floor for a drive but stopped at the FT line, had a nice game

Colvins defense and rebounding were great tonight. Shoulda been and F1 on Bittle when he foiled Colvin from behind. Not a basketball play and made no attempt at a basketball play. They called some ticky tack on Myles first half and that foul on the alley oop to bottle was god awful.

Colvin’s defense was better than cox and Harris tonight, so I’d assume you’d give them B- or lower?

Totally agree. That’s part of his role but he is timid a lot. Cam had a few of those where he pump faked (no one ever bites) and then the defender closes out so he can’t shoot it. Wish he’d shoot it right away.

I thought Harris' game was good all around. Colvin's was better in areas as you mentioned, but I thought he played a bit timid.

Gotta give Harris bonus points for 5/6 from the line and two big ones in last minute as did Cam Heide. In fact, the bench was 10/13 from the line and 5/6 in the last two minutes.

I was just glad to see the three that he took go in. Hopefully he gets back to shooting them like he was earlier in the season. He just hasn’t looked confident with his shot recently, but sometimes a little success goes a long ways.

Purdue was +7 in offensive rebounds and +5 in turnovers. They are winning with connected defense and great effort, recently.

If you had told me that Purdue would shoot a combined 5-25 from 3 on this west coast trip, I would have gladly settled for a split.

they were just laying off him and standing in the lane to make it harder on Braden to get inside and cover Trey as well. He was open a couple of times and needed to shoot. Other games it may not be an issue, but points were hard to come by in this game. So he did play well, but possibly left points on teh court

I don't normally complain on refs but there have been several bad calls against Purdue. Smith was hacked on that drive.
refs are human and make mistakes every game. You just hope they are not noticeable which is easier in a skill game, but when it gets physical...refs are challenged to do a good a job...just what happens.

That is all true. When it is hard to score due to physicality and he is open ...he needs to take a shot. If the team is not struggling to score...it isn't as crucial. I thought he, Myles and maybe Cox needed a couple to drop to get some spread. This team has a lot of different ways it can beat you, but it needs its two athletes to increase their contributions as the scouting reports and familiarity makes it tougher just because of those two items. I still think Myles needs to lower his testosterone in his jump shot.

no way...I tried to help out some teams with scrimmages and ended up watching players and telling them what they did wrong or what they needed to do. You would want the worst ref you could find over me, but don't think I'll cut them all the slack just because... ;)

My thing with Colvin is he was the 8th ranked player at his position nationally as a Senior and 3rd best in Indiana at that time. A kid that highly thought of should be show casing that talent by his second year in college. I do think a part of it is that he played a HC and simply didn't compete against the greatest of talent and it's hampering him now. Hopefully as I've said, he gets much better.

Thank goodness Bo retired.

13th but he’s also just turning 20 this coming year.. He was super young coming in and yes did not play the best comp. Should get only better, need more consistent offense to complement his defense. Won’t be featured due to the big 3 being back next year, but still should be a better role player on offense, that’s the next step.
