"Purdue is among five schools that could land Virginia transfer wing Elijah Saunders, per insider Jon Rothstein. He averaged 10.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers last season."

Not my favorite choice of players mentioned on various threads, I believe someone with more dribble drive 3 level ability is the optimal choice…
I’m not the coach 😉

I understand the portal will close Aprill 22, will be interesting to see who ends up where when the music stops and the dust settles. Clearly, this constant "free agency" changes how recruiting and talent development will happen going forward as you no longer have to build the player you need, just go buy them.

NIL has turned college basketball into NBA-lite that uses the Walmart approach of shopping for the product you want/need. Over time, laziness will kick in as coaches won't want to find young HS talent to develop and leave that to smaller programs. This will vary by university and coach, but that appears to be the current trend.

Remember though, just because the portal closes, doesn’t mean guys need to know where they’re going. They just need to have their name in the portal by that date. They can still commit over the next month or two.

Also, it takes a day or two before their name shows up publicly in the portal so really April 24th would be the last day for any news there.

Then another likely wave after graduation as grad transfers don't need to abide by the window.

Most of the "fun" is behind us but there is still plenty to happen I think.

Yeah he doesn’t need to be a shooter, just a threat, like Heide was. And he has some post moves he could use on smaller guys. I like his lob threat too
We had the lob option with Heide and Colvin. Rarely used it. Need a couple 6-6, 6-7 wings that can play the 3, defend and rebound. Oh wait, had that with C&M! Painter never utilized either to their potential.

Myles and Cam never put it together fully until the tournament. Saw flashes of how good Colvin could be vs ole miss. However, those two went through a huge shooting slump over the middle of the season (hard to hit shots when ya only get 2-5 a game and you’re not able to get them up back to back to get a feel of the game). Rebounding wasn’t in Cams game for the first half, although he rebounded very well from mid Feb on. And so did Myles.

This guy has shown in highlights he can go dribble and dunk or finish at rim.

I think Omer is slated to be that three level guy you’re mentioning, hopefully we can land him.

My guess is Saunders is targeted to be another big, strong body at the 4 who brings more athleticism to that group along with the ability to hit open threes. He also adds some lineup versatility as he could play along side Trey at the 4/5 if MP wants to go small and potentially switch five ways on D or play some 3 if they need a bigger, more physical lineup.

I would be surprised if he’s transformational for Purdue but he would give them another really nice piece, particularly given that MP what’s this team to be more physical.

Obviously this means Paint doesn’t think Burgess is ready to help ?

I think that there is a chance that Burgess redshirts. It’s not that he isn’t capable, but rather that his best position is still the 5 and there is a wealth of talent at his position. I believe he would have redshirted last season, had DJ not gotten hurt.

And if he does RS, it would allow him to get fully healthy. I know he has this whole offseason, but it would give him a lot more time to let his body heal. Who knows though with RS these days.

This guy totally reminds me of Gillis with a little better hops. Similar body, spot up shooter. Looks like he has a good post up and fade away game, can finish around the rim. Good athlete, not a great athlete or quick leaper.
Highlights didn't show much of his handles or ability to get his own shot.
Could be a good bench addition but not sure he's our answer at the 3-4.

From what I remember, Burgess did not want to RS before DJs injury and wasn’t willing planning on it. Once the injury happened there was no debate.

DJ played 25 minutes in the Texas Corpus Christi game which was the 1st game of the season, and the game before he was injured. Burgess played 5 minutes in the TCC game, so RB had already given up his chance to redshirt before DJ got injured in the second game.

I don’t know that that’s obvious but you’ve got a second year kid they really like in RB who is dealing with an injury after coming off an injury in HS versus a fourth year guy who has a ton of high major experience.

In a year next year when you’re all in I think MP goes after the experienced guy even if he feels pretty good about RB.
