Purdue players, coaches and fans are disappointed as the conference championship is done and with it likely Braden’s CPOY and Trey’s first team BT and borderline AA hopes. Dealing with disappointment is difficult. Coaches and players need to look at themselves critically and evaluate where they need to be better in order to end this losing streak and bring some positives from this season. Can they get back to playing their butts off and executing within themselves now that the pressure is off?

As fans, are we following this team in a way that brings us joy and makes our lives better? Or are we letting expectations and our personal pride get in the way of our joy? I need to get back to appreciating this team and players for what they are, not for what I wanted them to be. If sports don’t make our lives better, what’s the point?

Entertainment? At the end of the day, does winning or losing for us fans REALLY matter? Should it really have an impact on your day? I just had a lump removed from my back to see if it's the same b-cell lymphoma that I have in other areas or not. So I've been able to just sit and watch more basketball than I've previously gotten to. From VCU to Kentucky to Duke to Vermont to Indiana. Basketball in general brings me joy. But Indiana losing doesn't have any impact on me. Winning is nice and makes me more upbeat but end of the day, it really doesn't matter. I was happy about the win and immediately let down by the fact I can't pick up my 4 and 2 year old girls(massive Daddy's girls)or roughhouse with my 6 year old boy. End of the day, it should being us joy. But I wouldn't say it's about the winning or losing but God's great gift of life and just the ability to sit and watch the game.

We just dont have a complete team. DJ gone from injury. MC and CH not scoring enough, as we all expected would be happening. Core 3 getting wore out, as a result.

Love this man, this is exactly right. If it's causing us to tear down players, coaches or fellow fans that's a personal issue. I know I fall into that trap at times. Peace, health, and love to you brother.

And don't forget Catchings bailing late.
I agree. Maybe catchings would not have made a difference. Maybe he would. But we lost out on many other top high school and portal players we could have signed because of the timing of his decision to bail. Painter had already made his plans gor the year. And boom, everything changed. And when Jacobsen went down, It was back to the chalk board. We really have no idea how good this team could have been.

Well the world truly is ending when you and I agree....

To me I think the DJ loss might have been bigger.. he needs muscle, but in the glimpses we saw of him he had a ton of potential .. especially with TKR being so foul prone.

I've said this even before the season started, my expectations for this team were lower because we were basically starting over. Yeah we had most of the team from the FF run, but you have to learn how to play without Zach .. having DJ sure would have helped there as well.

The lumps we are going through this season will pay dividends next season.

Age and battles in life help put things in perspective that absence of those battles probably doesn't. When you take yourself out of the results in needing a result for YOU as opposed to the players and coaches I think a different perspective takes shape. I put nothing into the game and so what should I take out? I feel for the coaches and players during this streak. I wish it were different for them, but in some cases they are more resilient than fans. The second half collapses are unexplainable, but have happened against different teams and although scoring in the lane was a common area of concern in all and lack of poise in the IU game a main reason

On a positive note, if Purdue falls from a 3 seed to a 6th seed, we will be in the same bracket and play the exact same teams. The lone difference is the odds makers will predict the other team to win. And the money and pressure will be on the other team.

This season was always a rebuilding season, especially after DJ went down. The team over achieved during January and now we are seeing the true team with holes and young players not used to the late season pressures. The best thing this team can do is to forget about banners and awards and just go out and play the game.

Well if this helps I drove 12 hours one way to witness that disaster. First half we played well. The second half was the worst half of basketball I’ve witnessed in my life. Got home at 4am this morning. Long ass drive home after that but I still love the team and players. At the end of the day you put things in perspective and realize it’s just a game we love and a team we will always support no matter what!

You are a very good and dedicated fan Saratoga. Too bad our Boilers could not duplicate the first half score. Cheers to you.

Yep. Totally agree with this. It's human nature to allow recency bias dominate our perception of things.

Reality is that we still have a really good team, and they are capable of stringing together a few more W's before it's all over.

You post more like this, what are we going to disagree on?

Zach made up for a lot of defensive deficiencies. Without even blocking a shot he made the layup drills we are seeing much less prevelant. On offense he was a dependable easy two when nothing else was going right. Purdue under Painter has always struggled with long athletic teams who closed on their three point shooters.
