You see some comparisons to Nash or Stockton, although I don't know how much those games translate to today's NBA (which is crazy to ponder) - think Smith has better defensive skills/instincts than Nash. People forget how many steals Stockton would get (still the NBA all-time record, IIRC). He had some teammates who could really man the paint, but he was exceptional off-ball and with dig downs.
There's always room for a reserve role if he can make the adjustments and get a good team fit - he'll get a shot - that's all you can ask for.....he could also excel in transition - what if Memphis picked him up?
Think of the possibilities....does that not delight you?
